Help for Theodore Boyetchko

Theodore James Boyetchko was born June 25th, 2015 at 11:05 pm in Toronto Ontario, very far away from his parent's home in Terrace, BC.

Theodore's journey began at 20 weeks when he was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome  - meaning he would be born with essentially half a heart, the left side undeveloped. Without intervention, his condition would not support life.

Upon multiple trips to BC Women's Hospital in Vancouver, it was later discovered that the heart also had a blockage, stopping blood flow to his lungs. This meant they were not going to develop and would not support him once born.

The family was directed to Toronto, where they are doing a cutting edge procedure to open up the blockage's such as Theodores. So at 32 weeks a needle was sent through moms tummy into Theodore's heart, where a small stent was released to open up the blockage and allow blood to flow. The very risky procedure, only done roughly 10 times, was successful thanks to Dr. Ryan and an amazing team at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Vancouver and Toronto's cardiac teams strongly suggested the family relocate to Toronto for the birth in order to receive the best possible care. Six days after arriving in Toronto to prepare for birth, Theodore decided to come.

He surprised everyone and did not need assistance breathing, proving the procedure helped his lungs develop during his last weeks in utero. He is now hanging tight in SickKids preparing for his first surgery to remove the stent, and then a follow up open heart surgery to make his heart functional for his early months.

He will need another open heart surgery at around six months, and another one around age 4 or 5.

Mom and dad are relocated in Toronto at the Ronald McDonald House, but have incurred many travel expenses and do not have any income coming in. The family will be here for an extended period of time and do not know when they will be able to return home. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and very helpful in a stressful time. Any money the family does not use will go back to Ronald McDonald House, Hopeair, and Children's Variety.
