The Malawi Orphanage Project

Mtonda Foundation Centre For Orphans

On May 28th, The Dorcas Women from Naperi District Churches visited the orphanage to make a presentation of food and gifts. Each child received essential toiletries including soap and body lotion.

Mrs. Pagaja shed tears as a woman from the Dorcas Foundation addressed the audience saying, “…I’m touched by this old woman who, without thinking of getting resources first, came up with this establishment and has accommodated these children on meager resources since 2000. If she and her family had they decided otherwise, could have rehabilitated her dwelling first.  This act shows genuine commitment and a special calling. Let us learn a thing or two from this fellow woman.”

For almost 17 years, Mrs. Patricia Pagaja has served the children of Ntonda Malawi. She sees the result of deep-rooted poverty, emotional devastation brought on by losing parents, nutritional deficiencies, and poor education.  Most of the kids are raised by a single mother with little to no job prospects, or they are orphans cared for by an elderly grandmother.

The plight of these suffering souls moved Patricia's, heart. To meet the needs of these families, Mr. and Mrs. Pagaja selflessly used their retirement income along with donations from a few well-wishers to support this ministry. Her prayer was that one day, God willing, she would be able to realize the dream of establishing a fully-funded facility to meet the children of Malawi's needs.

Mrs. Pagaja strives to keep these little hearts encouraged by preparing them for a brighter future. Educating them and their families on the health message, implementing sustainable ventures such as farming, teaching social responsibility, offering one-on-one counseling will give these children tools to develop into responsible citizens. While providing food and education are essential, the heart of this ministry involves teaching children about the love of Christ and introducing life-sustaining biblical principles.

With dreams come roadblocks. Patricia faces the challenge of keeping track of the children as they grow or relocate as is often the case when jobs are few and far between. It is a constant uphill battle to educate the children because the funding isn’t available to pay qualified teachers. Every holiday season brings in an influx of children to the facility. Having to turn kids away at Christmas time is a distasteful option.

The Ntundo feeding station needs $300 each month for staples including chicken, beans, soya, tomatoes, onions, bread, tea, oil, flour, salt, and sugar. This money will also pay for firewood and caretakers.
