Hello Family, Friends, Brothers and Sisters of Peter and Melyssa Barrett,
Peter and Melyssa are very special to us and we know they may be special to you as well.
On March 14th at 3:15 pm, our dear husband, father, and brother, Peter lost his brave battle against stage 4 colon cancer. Peter was diagnosed in October 2015 and never lost hope, maintaining his faith in God and hope to be cured until the very end. Within the past year and three months, he underwent multiple chemotherapy treatments. Peter was a lifelong learner, storyteller, performer, keeper of the culture, who loved history and genealogy. He had an insatiable appetite for education and as a result, we would like to create a living legacy in his honor. He was a powerful force always at work in the community throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley through church, performing arts, cultural, and educational organizations.
A celebration of Peter's life will be held on Saturday, March 25th and we would like to thank everyone for their prayers, visits and support during the entire process. He would not have made it without all of the prayers and people who have been so supportive.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Peter Barrett Scholarship Fund. It was Peter's desire to assist others who want to pursue a career in the storytelling, theatrical arts, visual arts, African and African American cultural studies (including Kwanzaa), and geneology.
