Mission
The Crown Foundation, Inc. was established to support disadvantaged early adolescent youth by bridging access to resources and mentors in the hopes of guiding them towards self-improvement, community pride and success in education by emphasizing the importance of morals, values, ethics, as well as social and economic responsibility. Our goal is to turn youthful members of the community into community builders.
Background
All youth between the ages of 10 and 14 years old experience a period of intense physical and emotional transition which makes them very vulnerable. This vulnerability is exasperated for some urban students of the same age group as they stop being seen as children and begin to become stigmatized as being uneducable.
Far too many of urban youth are likely to attend schools that don’t have the adequate resources to provide the support many of these students need, resulting in significant educational gaps that widen as they enter high school.
The Crown Foundation believes that many of the issues experienced by middle school students can be mitigated or even avoided altogether just by exposing these students to positive role models and positive experiences. We believe that these students need to know that with hard work, sacrifice, and faith they can overcome educational and economic disadvantages.
Where do YOU come in?
The Crown Foundation provides a variety of programs to positively impact the futures of our students.
One such program, called "The Village Builders" is organized around using community service to teach the principles of respect for community, understanding, and cooperation among peers while working to encourage feelings of self-worth and community pride.
Additionally, The Crown Foundation has implemented an educational program entitled "the Reading Initiative" in collaboration with local schools to provide free tutoring to all program participants in hopes of improving their chances of educational success.
Your support will go toward the operating costs of administering the above programs, including supplies, snacks for the students and incentive programs to encourage participation from the students and parents. These incentive programs include educational field trips, team building hiking trips, museum trips and opportunities to attend social and cultural events.
