THE BUSH ZINE
We are two local multi-media creatives based in Baltimore; Emma Mattson and Saalika Khan. We met as photography majors at Towson University and graduated together; After we graduated, we wanted to keep up with our workflow that connected us to the eccentric and creative city we live in and love.
The Bush Zine will contain artistic pieces that relate to current events. We want to cover culture, politics, race issues, and humanities through photography, painting, illustration, photos of sculptures, poetry, comics, and short stories.
Our mission is to give a spotlight to small local artists, you know, the kind that work out of their homes, but might not be so very well known. As artists ourselves, we know that artists deserve to be paid for their work, which is why we plan on giving a percentage of money to the artists featured in our zine from sales.
We love our city. We want this zine to be unique to Baltimore's own art community.
The first issue of Bush has already been distributed to Red Emma's, Normals Books & Records, Atomic Books, Bookish Baltimore, and the MICA Library. More places are still to come.
The second issue of Bush will feature women-identifying artists in Baltimore. Artists will get a 2 page spread with artist bios/statements and several artworks. The fundraising for printing begins again! Thank you so much for your donations to the first zine!
