The Zoe Project

I have a co-worker that is 21 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disease that causes sever damage to mainly the lungs and digestive system and will lead to a double lung transplant, and for some this comes at a very young age. I have watched my coworker, Zoe, struggle to work and become ill multiple times and need in-patient care to recieve treatment that averages at 2 weeks in length. Last hospitilization I took the stuffing out of a rabbit and stuffed it full of delicious high calorie treats and closed it with velcro so she could have easy access to the treats to help her gain the weight she needs to be her healthiest. After this a thought came to me and now Im putting that thought into action! I have volunteers to help stuff the bears and send to people with CF to help meet their caloric goal, which is extremely high due to pancreatic insufficiency and the body burning excessive calories to cary out simple daily tasks. This could be 3,000 calories a day for someone only 100lbs! I have contacted Doernbecher and they love the idea. About 800-850 patients with CF are in and out of the hospital every year. This money raised will go to the teddy bears, candy, and shipping costs. So far we are getting donations for bears and they may even get a monogrammed "Z" on the tummy! Thank you for reading and considering helping out with "The Zoe Project"
