As a writer, I've watched others film my stories. Sometimes, they care. Most times, they don't, weighted down with their own agenda and vision. Such is the life in the independent film world.
I never wanted to direct. I spent years producing and writing, holding my tongue when possible for the sake of the project. But now is the time I must throw my hat into the ring. I must put up or shut up.
I wrote The Spider and the Fly with that in mind. It's a 12 page script, minimal locations, only two actors. It's a thriller with a satisfying twist in the end. After calling in favors, some begging and some borrowing, the bare minimum I can shoot this short film is just over $4000. I've put up $2000, so I'm looking for a little help from my friends... and a stranger or two.
Once completed, I will submit the film to festivals and eventually, place it online. Then I will know and so will the rest of the world, too. Stick to writing or continue down the path of writer/director.
