The Sierra Leone Climbing Wall
Donation protected
Before arriving in Freetown, we had a pipe dream of building a climbing wall here. With the encouragement and support of everyone we've spoken to about this since, we are now close to making this dream a reality...
The great news is that we've found a brilliant venue, just off Wilkinson Road, that will be perfect for the wall. It will provide over 250 square feet of climbing, featuring a traverse wall, vertical walls and two angles of overhang. Now we really need your help to start the exciting phase of construction!
We are hoping to raise a total of £1500, of which:
£900 will go towards paying the rent for the venue.
£200 will pay for the timber to build the wall itself and £200 for foam and carpet matting (to keep you bruise free!). We will source as much of the materials as possible from local traders, to support the local economy and keep the costs down.
£200 will go towards buying and transporting more climbing holds back from the UK as well as all the bolts and fixings that go with them. We have some climbing holds already thanks to hold luggage allowance - who needs clothes anyway?!
Anything over £1500 would be boku fine too. With this we can get extra supplies such as chalk and climbing shoes for people to use when they come to the wall.
We really appreciate any support you can offer. With your help, we are confident that the wall will be open by February!!
