The Risen Christ Window
Donation protected
St. James discovered late last year that The Risen Christ window was sustaining water damage. It was discovered that the beam that supports the window was rotting and needs repair. This repair work will be done over the next 5-6 weeks. As a part of the project, our beloved 29’ Risen Christ window has to be removed in its entirety, the space structurally repaired, and then the original window re-installed. During this process, we will also repair and clean the two Mary windows which flank the Risen Christ. While the glass is away, the Risen Christ window opening will be covered with temporary plywood sheathing.
The Risen Christ window is deeply meaningful to the people of St. James and many people in the Black Mountain community. Many found their way to St. James because they felt touched by this beautiful image of Christ inviting them to deeper fellowship. Many in the town of Black Mountain, while not members or involved at St. James, find themselves blessed by the great window, the image of Risen Christ that greets all that enter our town from State Street. Indeed, the window is a community window.
The cost of this window repair exceeds $50,000. St. James has approximately half of these funds in hand from insurance. The parish is grateful for any gifts that enable us to meet the repair expense.
The date of re-installation of the repaired window is to be determined. The community will be invited for coffee and fellowship to witness the re-installation of The Risen Christ window. May it bless all who witness it from inside and outside the church.
