The Ride For the Rescue

This is a campaign to raise money for a little known horse rescue in the town of Woodstock, Maine. Sarah Page and the Whole Horse Experience and Education Equine Sanctuary, a licensed 501c3 non-profit organization, has been helping horses of all kinds for a long time and now needs help.
I first heard of Sarah and the Whole Horse Sanctuary when I saw a WGME-13 television story about them and their mission. I happened to be in the area the next day and stopped by. I met twenty-nine beautiful, happy horses and a woman, Sarah, that is dedicating her life to giving them that happiness. She not only helps horses, she is also involved in many programs that bring people to interact with the horses and learn about them. There are also many horses that have gone on to future homes from her farm, leaving room for new horses to come in.
She has done all this for a long time without asking for much help.
But now she needs it.
I believe very strongly that what the Whole Horse Sanctuary is doing needs to continue. And the horses there, and the future horses that will come there, need our help.
All of this coincides with a vision I had about a year back. I wanted to do a ride with my horse, Rocky, to raise money for somebody or something. But I didn't know who or what. So I waited. But then I went to the Whole Horse Farm and saw what the place was about, and I knew I had found the focus of the ride.
The plan is this: on Saturday, August 11th, my horse Rocky and I will do an 8.2 mile ride - The Ride For The Rescue. We will do it bareback and bridle-less with no tack whatsoever. Just a human and a horse, and a riding helmet. The ride will be entirely on dirt roads in Pownal, Maine. Much like the horses of the Whole Horse Sanctuary, Rocky was once a horse that was saved from going to slaughter by a horse rescue here in Maine, Open Gates Equine Rescue. Hopefully this ride with Rocky will serve as an example of the connection between humans and horses, and also bring awareness as to how many horses go to slaughter every year.
