$38,943 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 472 people in 2 months
Created December 19, 2018
On Wednesday morning, December 19, 2018 around 12:30 am a devastating and fast moving fire destroyed The Penney Family's home, leaving the home uninhabitable and severely injuring 5 members of this great family.

2 of the 5 have life threatening injuries, while the other 3 have severe injuries that will require months of hospitalization and rehabilitation.

Eileen (mom), Jimmy, Lauren, Tommy were home at the time, along with Tommy's girlfriend. Mr. Penney was at work.

The money raised will go towards whatever the family needs. Mr. Penney has lost his home, all of their belongings and is having to deal with seeing his wife and 3 of his 5 children in different hospitals with critical injuries .

Family Update: 12/25

Merry Christmas!

First and foremost, our words cannot express enough our gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation for the constant and continuous outpouring of love and support we have received from loved ones, old friends and new and from this community that has rallied around us as a strong force of faith, hope and prayer. For everything, we thank you from our hearts to yours...thank you for it all!!!

Last Friday afternoon, we said goodbye to Jimmy...a beloved son, nephew, cousin and great friend to many. Although his physical being had passed on, we all know in our hearts that his spirit is with us...beside my Moms bed joining giving her the strength she needs to survive this battle. My brother offered his kidneys to someone in need, so that even in death...he could offer another human being a second chance at life! We will all miss Jimmy, his humor, his laugh and the love he had for family and friendship! Although we are apart now, he will never be forgotten! His psychological battle and his illnesses are gone forever, and Jimmy is finally in a place of peace both in mind and body!

My sister Lauren is being kept comfortable with 20% of her body burned, with the worst being on her arms and hands. She was weaned off some meds and taken off the ventilator some at the end of last week, but she came down with pneumonia which required an IV antibiotic, more meds and ventilator assistance with breathing. When she was alert, she was very apologetic and is sadly reliving the nightmare that occurred just short of a week ago. She goes into skin graphing surgery tomorrow at 9:30 am, so please continue to pray with us that she beats this pneumonia and can continues to have strength she will need recover from this horrific tragedy!

My brother Tommy is out of the burn unit, he is awake and alert! He is doing his best to stay strong and positive, which is a true miracle after enduring what he has, losing our brother, not being able to see our Mom and having his future fiancé in pain down the hall from him in the same hospital. After facing the smoke and flames, falling to his knees and nearly giving up, my brother somehow got the strength and will to get outside the house and attempt to catch his girlfriend Angela who dropped from the third story window. There is no doubt in our minds, that god was there that night and helped Angela reach the ground with only some cuts, scrapes and a few broken ribs. Tommy will make and is on his way to a full physical recovery, however everyone involved in this terrifying event will need extensive trauma counseling once their bodies have healed. Tommy suffered burns to just under 10% of his body, and although his face had already started to heal nicely, he may need surgery to repair skin on his arms and hands in the near future. Luckily, we have many opportunities so far to spend time with Tommy, watching the Eagles, Christmas movies and eating junk food while the dietician isn’t watching. If you Tommy, you know his humor can help in even the worst situations so we are all so thankful to have his strength and personality to lean on when we need him!!

Angela, the love of my brother Tommy’s life was released from Crozer today on Christmas, which I feel is a gift that Tommy will never forget. She continues to have pain both psychologically and physical, but she is strong, her family is truly amazing and she will beat this! She blames herself for not being able to do more inside the burning home, but we all know she did exactly as she should have and an angel gave her wings on that night. Had she not had the courage to fall, and Tommy to try to catch her, her injuries would have been life threatening to say the least...we are so thankful she had faith in our brother! She and Tommy will make a full recovery together and they will happily begin planning the life they have been wanted for so very long now. Even in the absolute worst of circumstances, Angela’s and our family have become bonded for life, and now we have each other lean on, in any time of need! This has proven to us that good can come out of any situation and that the power of love will always defeat evil!

My Mother is in the Temple burn unit ICU and is presently recovering from her second skin surgery comfortably in an induced coma with medicine sedating her and a ventilator helping her breath. My Mom suffered burns to 50% of her body, mostly abdomen, face, back, arms and face. So far, surgeries have been completed to remove dead skin, repair portion of her back and arms....but she has long battle ahead of her. She will need at least 3 more surgeries in the near future to continue graphing skin and repairing her burns, so we ask all of you to continue praying and keeping faith that God will protect her and give her the strength to continue battling for us! We love our Mother so much, she is the constant, the glue, the stability that has held our family together since we were children. She is the most selfless, giving and loving person I have ever known in my life, dedicating over 40 years of her life to helping others live! If you know my Mom, you know she is nothing short of a relentless fighter....she WILL NOT quit! Her overall physical health is working against her on top of the smoke inhalation and burns, but she continues to make progress as best she and her body can...so as she does....we must continue to breath, see the value of each minute we have next her and NEVER take for granted the value of the time we are getting to spend with her.

We have faith as a family that my
Mother will survive this uphill battle, she will slowly heal from the inside out and will come back to us. I can’t wait for her to open her eyes and to hear her laugh again, this would be the best Christmas gift that my siblings, my father and I could ever receive. Although she is not alert and awake, we know she hears us talking to her, playing her music and telling her we love her so very much.

We are reaching out for everyone that knows my family or even if you do not, please please continue to pray for us...that Jimmy is in peace up in heaven watching over us, that Tommy, Lauren and Angela continue fighting and stay motivated to heal and that my Mother proves once again she will NOT be beaten, not ever!! We know God is listening and will continue to listen to all of us, so keep the faith!!!

My father, Kevin and I are comfortable at our home and have nothing to complain about! We are lucky to be healthy and thankful that we are here to be strong for our loved ones that are suffering from the outcome of this disaster that has struck our family. We are doing our best to eat, sleep and stay positive ....not a day will go by that we are not bedside with our loved one, not one day!

Once again, the Anthony, Cross, Cartlidge and Penney family are reaching back out to all of you with LOVE, THANKS AND APPRECIATION for EVERYTHING you have and are doing for us....not a word, text, phone call or red cent has gone unnoticed! We feel a part of something bigger than our family right now and it truly helps us see rays of light at the end of this very dark tunnel! Please stay by our side, pray with and for us and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas for you and your families!

Happy and Healthy Always!
All OF US!
