The Mighty 40!
THE MIGHTY 12 is now…. THE MIGHTY 40!
In November 2015, 12 young girls, ranging in age from 11 to 13, arrived on the doorsteps of the Magnolia Rescue Center in southern Kenya. The girls, affectionately known as the Mighty 12, had left their villages to escape Masai cultural practices that would prepare them to be sold as wives and servants to men many times their age. Sadly, while illegal, this ritual continues in the region. The result is that our Rescue Center is out of room.
We need to do more. And we are!
The local community has acquired permission to build a new 40-person dormitory adjacent to our Rescue Center. My 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is raising the funds needed to construct the new building. We have already acquired many materials and construction has started. Now we need to raise $8,500 for the acquisition of a water tank, PVC piping, baths, sinks, toilets, bunk beds, windows and doors.

To all the Friends of the Mighty 40! Hello!, Happy Holidays!, and Happy New Year!
It’s been a couple of months since my last update but now that I’m done with coaching my son’s football team, ramping up at a new job, and finishing up a relaxing holiday with my kids, I’m more than able to give everyone the quick skinny regarding progress for the Mighty 40 and in support of the organization’s efforts over all.
All is going very well so far. We have collected nearly $6,000 of the initial $8,500 target. These funds have been leveraged to create designs, purchase building permits, and acquire some of materials and hardware needed during construction. The foundation itself is already under way and it’s a good thing because since my last email, 6 more children have come to our Rescue Center in Kenya. One is a mere 4 years old and the daughter of a young girl who escaped from an abusive husband who she was forced to marry.
We also received a single donation of $10,000 that will only be used for supporting the children themselves, not the construction of the dormitory. We still have work to do to acquire the total funds needed to finish the dormitory, but that said, we are well on our way to ensuring that we can support the girls – all 40 of them – for many years to come.
While I’m at it, let me provide you with further insight into our efforts in Eastern Africa. Several of us on the Fountains of Life team will be traveling to Kenya in February to check up on the project and ensure the construction schedule is being met and that the girls we support are being well cared for. As a reminder, we pay for these trips out of our own pockets so be confident that the funds you provided are going directly to the girls.
Each child costs approximately $100/mo to support when they are of secondary school age. This includes everything they need for school, shelter, food and living at the Rescue Center when they are not at school. After we return from Kenya, we will be sure to send along some pictures of the girls and the Center itself and let you know of our progress against plans. Total cost for the dormitory is estimated at $30,000 all-inclusive and will be completed in 2020.
As always, please reach out to me directly if you have any questions. Easiest way to reach me is at my personal email at eric.andrew.clem@gmail.com. And remember that your donations are tax deductible!
Love to All!
Eric
