In an alternate now, the comfort of the privileged few reaches new heights as the world beneath them is plunged deeper into despair. AutoMates - lifelike android servants - are at the forefront of the growing social divide. Those who can afford them are transfixed by them. Workers are made redundant by them. And the androids themselves hide a terrifying secret.
A social sci-fi with an air of Orwell meets Black Mirror, The Mechanical is a dark dissection of modern consumerist society with a twist that will shake audiences to their core.
No other short film is quite like this one. The Mechanical builds a world that is part commercial media stream, part twisted fantasy of the privileged, and part dark social reality.
We want your help to make our film a reality. By supporting us, you will be supporting an up-and-coming production company - Final Frame Cinema - made up of the newest emerging talent in British film as we embark on one of our debut productions. This is an opportunity to support some of the most exciting new voices in film and help us tell a story that signals the arrival of a revolutionary new generation of British filmmakers.
We are aiming to raise £1,000 of production funding for this project. This will cover the costs of location fees, equipment hire, props and costumes, and food and accommodation for cast and crew.
We hope to take The Mechanical to film festivals upon its completion and can't wait to share the finished film with all of you - but we can only get there with your help.
All of our supporters will have exclusive early access to the film once it's finished, with our biggest donations receiving copies of the film poster designed by the amazing Eleonora Bindi.
