SIx months ago Amanda and Jacob were blessed with the gift of becoming pregnant. As time went forward they found that not only were they having one baby but two baby boys! Everything was going accordingly, Amanda had the lustrous glow and oddly enough, Jacob was looking forward to Lamaze class.

About 12 weeks into the pregnancy the Dr. started to bring up Twin to Twin Transfusion. This is a disease of the placenta that affects identical twin pregnancies who share a common monochorionic placenta. Basically, Baby A is doing great while Baby B is essentially suffocating due to lack of fluid. The Dr. suggested Amanda come in every Wednesday to monitor the boy’s fluid and make sure they were both thriving.

Unfortunately, last Wednesday the Dr. diagnosed the boys with Stage II TTTS and sent them all to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena for emergency surgery. The surgery took about an hour and a half; basically the doctor had to use a laser to coagulate the vessels that communicated between the twins. The surgery was a success but they were not out of the red yet. Amanda was going to need yet another surgery called a cerclage. This is surgery is a treatment for a cervical insufficiency when the cervix starts to shorten and open too early causing a late miscarriage or preterm birth. In order to allow Mama and babies to gather strength the surgery was scheduled 2 days later. Come Sunday morning it was surgery time, it also was about an hour and a half and thankfully it was another success. Amanda and the boys were prescribed to stay in the hospital for an additional 2 days to insure good health.

The growing Maxwell family was released from the hospital after spending 5 days in the hospital. Amanda has been placed on bedrest for the next 10 weeks. Although Amanda’s job will be paying for 4 weeks of sick leave, that still leaves the Maxwells with one income for the remaining 6 weeks. Not to mention do to Amanda being on bed rest there will be no baby shower for the boys.

I have set up this fund to collect donations to be applied to the hospital bills as well make up for the lost income. I also asked Amanda to send me her registries that she made at Baby’s R Us as well as Buy Buy Baby and in hopes that we can get some items checked off her lists. Jacob and Amanda are so grateful for any donations or gifts they will be blessed with and send much love and gratitude. Let’s come together as friends and family of the Maxwells to insure their first children have all they need to start a happy and healthy life and the parents can focus on raising their boys.
