The Mary Webb Centre is a self-supporting, volunteer-based Concert Hall- Art Gallery-Community Centre located in rural downtown Highgate.
Our Mission Statement is: to engage and inspire performing and visual arts in partnership with the local community and visitors within a historical and architecturally significant heritage venue.
In 2010 this former 100 year old United Church was revitalized into a performace centre, art gallery, social hub and reception hall for the community of Highgate and surrounding area. Our 250-seat live music venue hosts Juno Award Winning Canadian artists such as Royal Wood, Steven Page, Fred Eaglesmith, Jimmy Rankin and the Leaheys. Over 50 artists currently display art and crafts in our gallery. We also offer on a weekly basis, artistic and general interest classes for the public as well as rent our facility for weddings, cultural and community events and programs.
We are currently fundraising for a 2200 sqft addition which would allow us to meet modern building codes and accesibility requirements. The addition was started in Sept 2016, however further funding is still necessary to complete the construction. Upon completion it will be fully accessible (ramped entrance, lift and large stairwell). The addition will include numerous washrooms, a lobby, a business office and expanded art gallary space.
The Mary Webb Centre has been awarded a $62,500 matching grant. However, in order to obtain the grant dollars, The Mary Centre MUST first raise $62,500 on their own. This is where we turn to our community for support. By investing in The Mary Webb Centre you are investing in your local commuity. Marketing research indicates that The Mary Webb Centre is continually drawing patrons from larger centers, creating an economic spinoff for the community and local businesses.
Consider a lasting donation in memory of a loved one or to celebrate a special occasion. A donation of any value is greatly appreciated! An income tax receipt can be issued for donations over $20 if requested.
