Save Kyle Miron's Brain:

Kyle Miron is a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Kyle is creative, positive, a dream-maker, and a vision seeker and the first person to give his shirt off his back for anyone. If you have not met Kyle before, I'm telling you that you've not met anyone like him in this world. Kyle is uniquely caring, heartfelt, and passionate about people. For those who know Kyle, I don't have to tell you these things, because you've felt them. You know that this man listens to others needs and tries to help them in anyway that he can. However, one thing you may not know about Kyle was his sudden brain surgery after doctors found a few malignant tumors in his brain.

The summer of 2016, Kyle began to have terrible headaches, dizziness and vision problems. He thought these symptoms were signs of migraines, but once they became increasingly worse in the fall, he wasn't able to walk in a straight line and couldn't even feel the feet of his two year old son, Ray. Kyle went from doctor to doctor trying to get an MRI because he knew something was wrong. On Saturday November 12th, Kyle was unable to get out of bed because the pain and pressure in his head was too intense. His wife took him to the ER and he was able to get all the proper tests that he needed.

The MRI revealed 4 tumors on his brain. The largest was found on the brainstem. He was told that he needed immediate brain surgery to be scheduled for the following day.

The doctors were able to remove about three-quarters of the larger golf-ball sized tumor, they could not completely remove the rest of it because they didn’t want to damage the brain and impair motor functions.

Just when we thought the hardest part was over, Kyle was experiencing too much pressure in his head and a CT scan showed a build up of spinal fluid in his brain. A second surgery was required to install a shunt to help alleviate the pressure. This is a tube that is installed in his brain and drains the excess spinal fluid down his body and becomes absorbed in his abdomen.

Results from the tumor pathology took some time as this tumor was in fact a rare one. The results revealed that the type of brain tumor Kyle has is called a medullablastoma. Medullablastomas generally present themselves in young, adolescent patients, so was super rare to be seen in Kyle. These types of tumors come on suddenly and grow quickly. But also this tumor was found to not be metastatic, meaning it does not travel to other parts of the body. No tumors were found along his spinal column, just the brain.

The shunt definitely helped the pressure and pain Kyle was experiencing, but then he had another setback. Because of all the antibiotics he was on, he contracted Clostridum difficile - C. diffs - a life threatening diarrhea. Luckily the nurses caught it on the first day and began treatment right away. Kyle reports that this diarrhea was almost worse than brain surgery.

It took sometime for Kyle to get his motor functions back. At first he couldn’t even feel the left side of his body or see anything. Two weeks later and after four days in the inpatient rehab hospital, he was able to walk again and brain began functioning properly considering all he has been through.

Kyle now needs to follow up his treatment with proton radiation and chemotherapy to completely kill the rest of the tumor on the brainstem and the three other ones that were found. The closest place for Kyle to undergo this specific type of radiation is in Chicago at the Proton Therapy Center, associated with Northwestern University hospital.

Kyle’s wife, Eliza is unable to go with him as she is pregnant and due with their second son near Christmas time. Since the radiation center is an outpatient hospital, Kyle may need to stay in a hotel during his treatment time, which could be up to two months.

At this moment - November 29, Kyle has to focus all his energy on healing and recovery. The progress he has already made is a miracle. That being said, his family is doing the best they can to figure out how to cover the inevitably tremendous costs associated with all these surgeries and therapies.

Currently, Kyle has health insurance that will be in place until December 31st, unfortunately the company (PhP) has canceled their individual plans completely and will terminate the Miron family from their coverage. Kyle will most likely go on Medicaid for 2017. We have submitted an application for Kyle to get on social security disability because he will be unable to work for some time. Eliza will also be unable to work for a bit due to new baby. The bills are going to start coming in fast and furious. Kyle and his family need help, lots of it, and soon.

This is why we are asking for your help. Kyle has the desire to live and the doctors are impressed by his motivation and strength. He and his entire family will be eternally grateful for your donation, some ways to help:

Eliza -- I want to tell you that I think you are the strongest person I have ever met! Kyle wouldn't be able to do this without you. Stay strong sister. I'm here for you whenever you need me! Please know that! He loves you so very much and has told me that every day since I've been here. This isn't easy for anyone to accept but you are such a powerful woman! I love you so much! -- Sister Pook

love you!

From Eliza: Thank you for taking the time to read about our journey. It’s never easy to ask for help, but I am already blown away with how many people from all over the world want to help and have been sending us love and prayers. It is because of US coming together that has helped get Kyle through the (hopefully) hardest part of this cancer. Being by his side in the hospital and watching him go through this pain, suffering, and trauma was the hardest thing I have had to go through. It wasn’t difficult because I felt helpless and unable to do anything, but more-so was difficult because I had to do everything to help him get through it - I had to find every ounce of strength and love within me to stand as his rock. In the hospital I kept seeing visions of Kyle and I sailing on a boat, no pain, no headaches, no tumor. I know that there is light at the end of this long, dark tunnel. Baby’s due date is fast approaching, but please don’t worry about me at this time. It will be a blessing to celebrate a new life and welcome our new member to the family, this will bring so much love, joy and give further strength to help us get through Kyle’s cancer. We will overcome, love conquers fear! Thank you, thank you!

Words from our Miracle Man -- “It’s hard for me to comprehend everything at this moment but I feel everyones love so immensely. I couldn’t have survived without all of your energy. I’m eternally grateful. I don’t know what I’ll be able to do to repay everyone’s love but I’m so happy to still be here and looking forward to see all of you again. There’s still a road ahead but the light has never looked so bright! I’m here when you need me.
