A Blind Man's Newsstand Burned on Christmas Eve
For 40 years, New York native Frank Senior has had a newsstand on the northwest corner of 42nd St and 5th Ave. Frank, who has been blind all of his life, has counted on the stand as a stable way to bring home what he calls his "bread and butter".
On Christmas Eve around 4:30 PM, Frank got a shocking call from the fire department, that his Midtown stand had gone up in flames, and it and all contents were destroyed. Although it was rush hour, the newsstand was unoccupied and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, although Frank considers the fire suspicious.
Unfortunately, Mr Senior is not insured. Estimated costs are to rebuild and restock the stand, which sold an array of items including magazines, newspapers, snack, drinks, cigarettes, lottery tickets and more.
Frank is also an actor and accomplished and popular Jazz vocalist and is offering a copy of his new CD "Senior's Center of Love", for all donations over $25. Find out more about Frank at www.franksenior.com
