Hi Everyone! I am so excited to announce that I am currently writing and publishing a book! My book is going to be a children's book called, "The Girl Behind the Door" (an expansion on a play I wrote this past summer!) “The Girl Behind the Door” is a story is about a young girl who shuts herself in a room behind a door because she is afraid of all of the what ifs that are waiting in the world outside. As the story goes on, a series of visitors come to her doorstep. Some of them try to remind her of the adventures, dreams, and love that the door is keeping her from, while others try to convince her to stay locked up inside where it’s “safe”. All the while the door is the only thing standing between her and all the things she won’t know until she steps beyond it.
Though it will be a children's book (ages 8-12), I am writing the book with more than just kids in mind! The sorts of fears the young protagonist faces are conflicts and challenges I believe all of us face no matter what stage of life we find ourselves in. So many people allow fear to determine what they can and cannot do, sometimes for so long that they don't realize it anymore. That is why I believe this story is so important! God did not create us to live in fear, but to discover the truth, rely on him, and become the most complete and most bold versions of ourselves! My deepest hope for this book is that this story will go far beyond me to inspire readers to overcome the things keeping them behind their doors and to step beyond them.
It has always been a huge dream of mine to publish a book. I have been writing stories my whole life and have been writing professionally for about 7 years. Out of all of those stories, I have felt most strongly that The Girl Behind the Door needed to go a step further. I am a strong believer that God calls us to do things in line with who we are. I know he's called me to be a storyteller and I am moving ahead with this process because I believe he wants to use this story to do something for others way beyond me and my words.
I am working with Cynthia Sudor and her publishing company, Caracyn Publishing. I have already submitted three installments of the book to her and she has returned them with edits so I can revise and rewrite. Once the writing is on its way we'll be working with an illustrator, graphic designer, and printer aiming for a Christmas season book release! But because the publisihing process involves so many steps, I need your help and support!
Any money donated will go directly toward making this book a reality. And whether you can give two dollars or a thousand dollars, I will be sincerely grateful that you believe in me, my book, and this message that could impact a whole lot of people.
