But is the micronational community ready?
For the first time in decades, micronationalism is considered a potential, viable alternative to macronationalism. With the confidence in leadership all over the world declining, people who would never have considered micronationalism in the past are now finding micronational initiatives and joining them.
A micronational world, however, is still very much uncharted territory. New micronations are born every day, some to fizzle out in a matter of months or weeks, while others grow to become prominent members of the micronational community. We are witnessing a change that could yield great results for this community or, if left unchecked, devastating consequences.
It is time to come together and share our knowledge, wisdom, and skills with the members of the micronational community. We can teach the eager micronationalists the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed and grow in this community. We can learn how to grow our own micronational institutions. And we can certainly offer a sense of purpose and belonging to every member of our community.
With this in mind...
The Sovereign House of Mithras wants to partner with you to create the first Micronational University in the history of our community.
This University will be a university for the micronational community, by the micronational community. It will be a platform for established micronations to create appropriate courses that will be shared with the entire community. And this will offer structure to help educate the micronational community so that they can grow in maturity, understand the nature of micronationalism, and learn to share their greatest potential to the world around them.
Micronations that have submitted their own courses to this university will receive royalties for their courses as students take them. Thus establishing it as a source of passive income for those micronations. The university will be marketed as a whole package as a means for the prospective student to earn a degree, which will encourage students to take as many courses as they can.
The short term goal will be to establish a repertoire of 50 courses that, after successful completion, will earn the student a bachelor's degree in Micronational Studies. The selection of courses is intended to reflect what is typically required to receive a degree through a traditional university. Upon completion of the degree requirements, the student will receive a professional quality parchment certificate in the mail. (This is a parchment certificate, not a digital certificate, so a physical mailing address will be required).
At this moment, one course and one primer course are almost ready for publication, and outlines for several other courses and primers are almost complete. It is expected that at least one course will be published every month. Primer courses will be sold for $25.00USD, Beta courses will be sold for $99.00USD, and Standard courses will be sold for $149.00USD.
Intended use of the funds requested include:
Fees for online school platform are $99.00 per month (approximately 6 months)
Domain hosting is $10.00 per month (approximately 6 months)
Video editing, photo editing, and voice recording software $600.00 USD (Adobe Creative Cloud; 1 year)
Video camera with accessories (Sony HXRMC2500 Shoulder Mount AVCHD Camcorder) $1400.00
Interview microphone with cord, stand, mic flag, and windcover $300.00
The remainder of the funds are for unforeseen incidentals and crowdfunding campaign administration fees.
Backer awards for this campaign will be as follows:
$15-$24 donation will receive a coupon for a free primer course
$25-$49 donation will receive a coupon for two free primer courses
$50-$99 donation will receive a coupon for a free Beta course
$100-$199 donation will receive a coupon for a free Standard course and 25% off of all other courses
$200-$499 donation will receive two Standard courses and 50% off of all other courses
$500-$999 donation will receive 75% off of all courses and a certificate of appreciation from the institution
$1000-$2499 donation will receive 90% off of all courses, will receive a certificate of appreciation from the institution and will have an educational honour named after them.
$2500+ donation will receive 95% off of all courses, will receive a certificate of appreciation from the institution and will have an annual scholarship named after them for the value of the donation. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who, after completing 10 Beta or Standard courses, has demonstrated a high standard of academic performance and will be voted for by the stakeholders in conjunction with this particular donor. This scholarship will only be used as credit towards courses and will not expire.
This campaign has no set expiry date. It will continue for 90 days or until the target is reached, whichever comes second.
What is:
A primer course?
A primer course is a mini course that covers information that will be included or expanded upon in another course. It is designed to expose the students to the information that will be covered in the full courses so that they can receive a better mark. Primer courses do not give credits towards the degree program and they are not a factor during selection for academic awards.
A Beta course?
A Beta course is a full course that was recently published and it may contain "bugs" that need to be worked out. There may be spelling and grammatical errors, literary flow issues, or content that needs correcting or updating. There may not be video, sound, or images; or the video, sound, and images that it has may need editing or replacement. This type of course is offered at a reduced price because it is intended that the student would help discover any errors that need corrections.
Standard course?
A standard course is a course that is expected to be free of errors and all of the multimedia components should be at a finalized stage.
