Help us publish a unique book: "The Fallen" in memory of millions of Muslim soldiers that fought for Europe in WW1.
Based on original documents, the Forgotten Heroes 14-19 Foundation has discovered that at least 2.5 million Muslim soldiers and labourers from the MENA region, South Asia, Africa, Russia and the US, fought for Europe with dignity and honour. Many were more celebrated and decorated than their European counterparts.
Among the personal diaries are numerous heart-warming accounts of European soldiers benefiting from natural medicines and treatments learned from their Muslim comrades. Muslim, Christian and Jewish soldiers fought united, side-by-side; sharing their experiences in accommodating each other's cultures, music, gastronomy and religious practices, despite the difficult conditions in the trenches.
But more relevant to today, with growing xenophobia against minorities and refugees, and 'religious' and far-right extremism dividing communities, it's time to recognise the diversity, and shared heritage, in the history of Europe, to challenge those who seek to divide us.
Many people have asked us to publish a book based on our findings, so we are fundraising to publish "The Fallen" - a unique coffee table book showcasing these real stories.
'The Fallen' will take the reader on a journey of reflection and re-education, by showcasing the individual the stories of Muslim soldiers from nineteen different countries, and to commemorate the significant impact they had both in the war effort, and on the hearts and minds of their brothers in arms.
It will inspire the reader to want to know those millions of soldiers more, and to reflect on the lessons we can learn from them today. It will also counter the lie that Muslims have never contributed to Europe.
