  *******THE STORY********

The Bad Habits of Unhappy People is a dark comedy that brings to light the hilarious and depressing millennial quarter life crisis prevalent in today’s society in which we somehow fail at adulating.  A story where glass ceilings and misogyny have been exposed, this film is about a woman’s treacherous journey from dysfunction to success and self-discovery.

This story shows that women can be more then what everyone expects them to be and break the bad habits others put on us so we can be happy. The story follows Frances, young, beautiful and formally a fat kid. She’s considered a bad adult who lives the way she wants and runs her life on casual meaningless sex, lots of drugs, and bad decisions. This stems from a traumatic childhood experience in which her father was brutally murdered in front of her after a drug deal goes south. In spite of this traumatic event, Frances is still determined to find happiness and fulfill her goal of self-expression through writing. Her life continues to change dramatically as her unsympathetic mother Connie, a trophy wife, quickly moves on finding solace in her husband’s business partner, Ken, who is rotten at his core. Frances is then forced to navigate her life by her own judgment, which involves using various addictions as coping mechanisms. This new relationship also introduces Frances to her stepsister Fern, who turns Frances into a role model. Through her journey, Frances is able to become a woman and realize who she is in society.

The Bad Habits of Unhappy People explores growing up with various physical and emotional traumas and how that leads to numbing agents like sex, drugs, and alcohol to create artificial happiness. Through these hardships in life she ultimately realizes she does have one dream, which is to write and publish her own novel. Her journey of self-discovery begins when she realizes the toxic relationships she has surrounded herself with and sets in motion changes in her life. Frances begins to surround herself with those that actually mean something to her. She learns what it means to be an adult and how powerful she truly actually is within without losing herself to the expectations of others around her.

I've spent four years writing this film. The film's screenplay has been nominated multiple times as a top ten contender, semi finalist, quarter finalist, and even a runner up as best of the fest at the Barnstorm Screenplay Festival. This is a film that has to get made even though Hollywood has dubbed it "too edgy". Please help me push the boundaries of art and society with The Bad Habits of Unhappy People.
