The Art Of Peace Festival

There has been an increase of gun related violence in Jackson over the last decade, leading to increased trauma patients coming into the emergency room of Henry Ford Allegiance Health. Often times the victims of gun violence are youth between the ages of 16-24. PTSD among this population has caused untreated mental health disorders and has left families without the services, counselling and support needed to address complex trauma and the effects of adverse childhood experiences.
In seeking a solution to violence trauma impacting the city of Jackson, local musicians seek to raise awareness of gun violence and reach youth and families through an annual community festival to reinforce the love and support we have for our community and the people in it. There will be musical performances, guest speakers from the city of Jackson and a celebrity guest speaker setting the stage to address violence and other issues surrounding safety and some possible solutions in helping to create a positive environment for the people and city of Jackson. Resource booths will be available from Trauma nurses, Restorative Justice Practitioners, mentors, and other community service providers that offer alternative programs for youth as well as support services for families impacted by violence. This years’ festival will be held August 17th 3pm-8pm at the CP Federal Square.
In order to achieve our objectives we are seeking financial support from community stakeholders to sponsor this festival. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover the costs associated with the production and management of this event. If you are willing to support us please do so.
