The Art Farm Stage 1

The Art-Farm [Stage 1]

Moving from the high desert of Northern New Mexico to the fertile lands of Western Massachusetts, this project will create a farm that brings together Art, The Environment & Sustainability.

Help create the Art-Farm. Barbara Harnack and Michael Lancaster have placed their hand built home on the market and created an idea for a small working farm where visitors could buy organic produce, see and collect fine art and fine craft, and tour a working farm while experiencing site specific art projects which involve the viewer/ participant in an engagement with the the natural World.

The recent loss of their partner, Barbara's mother - Phyllis Harnack, has devastated their finances. Phyllis died in December 2016 at the age of 92. She was an active participant in The Art-Farm concept/ campaign.

The Art-Farm Concept developed in the autumn of 2016. The couple had been marketing their home with the hopes of moving east and starting a farm. They had lived on the New York side of the Berkshires in the 1970's and 80's before moving to New Mexico. They had operated the Malden Bridge Arts Center and Woods Gallery for nearly a decade, showing fine art, craft and even sculpture by such notables as George Rickey. The concept of showing site specific environmental art at The Art-Farm includes annual or biannual proposals by artists who would make installations that are ephemeral or to some extent would return to the Earth. The mission is to give access to artists and viewer/ participants to a voice which expresses our human relationship and it's importance to Art – Environment & Sustainability.

Funding will help cover costs for travel, property inspections, interest payments, lodging and grant writing consultation, as well as all around preperation for the big move.

There are many ways to support this project. One is to donate to this campaign. Barbara Harnack and Michael Lancaster intend to invest [most] of their equity profit from the sale of their home in New Mexico into The Art-Farm.

They have earned their living through the arts and marketing their art for over 36 years. Their website showcases their work and many art works are for sale. You can support them by collecting art work and at this juncture they are making it readily available.

We would like to hear your ideas about our mission, our farm and how it could contribute to people and the arts.

We are also selling this very special handmade home in Santa Fe County. It is solar heated with back up, green built, utilizes stored rainwater for irrigation and has been Featured in Su Casa and American Style magazines.
