The Aiden Barnes Kindness Park

Donation protected
When we remember Aiden Barnes, we think of our world’s most kind, caring, loving, protective, smart and sensitive young man. We remember the genuine smile that took over his face; his empathetic eyes that saw only the good in people; and his gentle soul that always made you feel important, no matter whom you were. When you remember Aiden Barnes, you feel love!

Undoubtedly, this has been a difficult time for the Barnes family. Simply missing his presence has been enough to make breathing difficult. Every day, hour, minute, and second, they battle to make sense of this tragedy, often coming up with more questions that go unanswered. So it goes without saying that Connie, Andrew and Ava, and quite frankly, all those who knew and loved Aiden, are in pain and looking ahead at a long road of healing.

However, since Aiden’s passing, the Barnes family has been shown compassion and kindness far beyond their wildest imaginations. Flowers, cards, emails, texts, meals, and tokens continue to arrive daily, often delivered by friends, neighbors, and sometimes strangers just hoping to offer personal comfort and solace to a grieving family. And while the family has chosen to grieve privately at this time, they also acknowledge that because Aiden chose to love so many, he, in turn, was loved by even more.  And with that gift comes a certain responsibility to allow others to share in the grieving AND healing process.

It is the Barnes family’s fervent wish that Aiden’s legacy of unconditional kindness in life will continue on past his death. In lieu of a memorial service, which has a beginning and ending, and frankly just too painful for the them to handle right now, the Barnes’ are creating a living memorial that will forever provide those who were touched by Aiden a place to come to heal, a place to gain strength and a place to remember that Aiden’s kindness is forever with us.

With this, “The Aiden Barnes Kindness Park” will be created and located in a place that will always have fond memories of Aiden, his home.  A Venus Dogwood tree will be planted along with a bit of his ashes and his baby blanket.  Their backyard is unfenced and “The Aiden Barnes Kindness Park” will be open to all.  It is the Barnes family’s wish that anyone, especially kids, have a place to go to to visit Aiden.  This will be a warm, safe, loving place where we (all that loved Aiden) can come for a hug, a brownie and some peace any time they wish.

We know that everyone wants to help. Everyone wants to heal. Everyone wants to “do something”.  So, after much consideration, the family has chosen to place benches, formed with memorial rocks, from anyone that would like to participate, situated around Aiden’s tree.  It is their hope that if the benches are created by his friends, it will be more inviting and Aiden will be surrounded by his friends. This special place is for you, for those whom Aiden touched every day of his blessed 15 years on this earth.

Many of you may be unable to make the trip, or may just want to put your thoughts on paper, so the family has also chosen to accept letters which will be placed in the locked “Letters to Aiden” box next to Aiden’s tree.  Please mail the letters to 2276 N. Emerald Bay Ave.  Eagle, ID  83616.

The Barnes family are adamant that they will take care of their boy.  This fund is for friends who also need to heal and want to “do something”.  All donated proceeds will be used to create the benches for “The Aiden Barnes Kindness Park” and to support the organizations dear to Aiden’s heart: Track, support for those in need, and Track and Field for Special Needs kids. Please know that this is simply an invitation to join in this particular healing process and is by no means a solicitation of funds.  From the moment Aiden took his first breath until long past his last, it has been his parents’ joy, honor, pride and privilege to take care of their baby in every way and they always will. “The Aiden Barnes Kindness Park” will happen and Aiden’s legacy will continue!
