Thames Bridges Trek For ACT

Donation protected
I am taking part in the Action Challenge - Thames Bridges Trek on September 8th to raise money for ACT, Aid For Children With Tracheostomies.

ACT supported us as a family for the 5 years that Finn had his tracheostomy.  They are a tiny charity that is volunteer run and desperately needs funds to cover the cost of caravan maintenance and pitch rental at The Welcome Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren as well as routine administration costs and family fun days to bring families together.  It means a lot to know that you are not alone out there and that others are going through the same issues as you.

The caravan is hired out to families of children with, or who have had, tracheostomies.  Obviously, most of the children have other disabilities so the caravan is placed perfectly on a family/disability friendly site which is within a two minute walk of the local doctors surgery, where they see children with tracheostomies regularly.  You would be amazed how many GP's are scared of tracheostomies.  The caravan also has a huge amount plug sockets, extension leads, spare medical equipment, bed sides, bedding, general day to day items as well as DVD's, games, buckets and spades and fishing/crabbing buckets etc which helps families to not have to pack as much.  I am sure you can appreciate we  already have lots of equipment to carry before we even start on clothes and toys.

We use the ACT caravan at least a week a year and although it is amazing, it has been hired out since the 1980's and could really do with some new furniture and an enclosed deck area where children can play outside safely or parents can relax with a glass of wine in the evening whilst their children sleep safely.

To help me raise funds for the caravan upgrade, I am taking part in the Action Challenge Thames Bridges Trek on the 8th September.  This is a tough 25 kilometre challenge with lots of steps that covers 16 bridges across London.  I will start at Putney Bridge and zig-zag across the capital to Southwark, past the majestic Tower Bridge.  If it's anything like last years challenge it will be a scorcher and take approximately 5-9 hours to complete.  I haven't been in training for over a year now so my poor old calves will feel this one.

So, if you could spare a few pounds, to help me smash my target, I would be eternally grateful.  Finn would love nothing better than handing over a big fat cheque to ACT.  I have attached a photo of Finn in Dawlish Warren when he was three.
