Heart of a Warrior

Survivor. This is the title one earns after they survive a battle with cancer. If the survivor is again forced into this battle of life and death they are considered a 2 time survivor, 3 time survivor, etc... but not my aunt. My aunt has never been just a survivor. She is a warrior. Michele Cosgrove Swift. Her name alone should be synonymous with strength. First diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990 she faced many obstacles raising her 2 daughters alone, she fought that battle head-on and reigned victorious. She has since been forced through the return of this cancer not once but 3 more times. Most recently, while Mikki (as she's known by family and friends) was on a trip to Florida to visit her brother she became disoriented and required a trip to the emergency room where she was diagnosed for the 4th time with stage 4 cancer that has metastasized in her brain and her bones. Not to be defeated this Warrior, with the support of her loved ones, has once again taken on this battle without holding back. She is "prepared to fight".
Mikki has always been a fighter, not only for herself and her loved ones, but for her community, too. She worked many years for the Abused Women's Advocacy Project, working in the mental health field and often volunteering her time to others in need. She has been a dependable, hard working woman all of her life. To say that Mikki is loved and incredibly valued would be an understatement.
That being said, being sick and unable to work is expensive. It's moments like this where it truly takes a village. Please, if you have the means, help give Mikki and her family one less thing to worry about.
