Hello,
My name is Leilani Neal, I am 18 years old and I love making movies. My whole life (since a very young age) I have moved from dream to dream never truly knowing what it was that I wanted. Until the day I turned 12 years old, I was in the car with my mom and suddenly I told her that I wanted to be an actress. Ever since then, I've done everything I can to reach that dream, school plays, acting classes and audtions which have been the only thing that ran with me since the day the thought occured. It wasn't until now, 6 years later, that I realize that it isn't just the acting that I love, but the art itself (from Theatre to Feature Films).
Although, I love theatre and film, the truth has always hit me rock hard in the face.... My face. It was only the fact that the color of my skin could keep me from achieveing the role of my dreams, that "...even though you [I] may be the most talented girl in the room I could still be rejected just because I was a 'black girl'"(First acting teacher, 2013). This isn't to say that all of that is true (at least 95% is), that the color of your skin means anything to a (casting) director, who usually claim 'colorblindness' as a main factor at times. But this is to show that for girls like me, who range from African American, Filipino, Indian and Mexican that fear that their dreams can't come true because of the color of their skin is anything but and to show them that anything is possible as long as your heart is pure for what you want.
So, I ask for help in creating this short film to show beautiful girls that anything is possible for them. To let them speak their minds and let the world hear why it hurts to be picked last just because of something as uncontrollable as the color of their skin or who they were born as.
With the donations, I will use completely for the film process. From the equipment to the staff. $5000 is a lot to ask for, and it has taken me a lot of courage to look to my community for help, but I lack in the ability to do so for myself, I will add not only my time but my own money to furthering this process as well, I just need your help to get there. With this money I will arrange from the basic equipment such as; the camera, sigma lens, lights, proper editing software.... etc. For the longest time, a lot of the things that I've done has been on my phone, but I feel as though time is telling me that I soon should move foward and upgrade (especially for something as close to my heart as this).
My goal to getting pre-production rolling is set for March 22, 2016, with the hope of raising as much of the money as possible as well as having the crew and the guest speakers to help bring this project to life.
