Terri Mercer Is off her feet due to foot surgery!
Terri and Speedy Mercer are both 100% disabled and living solely off of their Social Security Disability and the very small VA Disability check that Speedy gets for his service connected disability from the US Navy. Terri has ONLY Medicare as does Speedy although the VA takes care of his medical needs, this leaves them unable to cover some of Terri's critically needed care.
Terri Mercer is in the beginning phase of having both heels fused (Screwed and pinned), her ankles replaced, and will be literally off her feet for many months at a time. So far they have just fused her left heel and it is about half healed enough to start the ankle replacement. The problem is, her husband, Speedy Mercer, is 100% disabled and can barely care for himself, much less the both of them! This means they need a sitter that can also assist in transferring Terri from her bed to her wheelchair and cooking brunch and dinner, etc.
The lady we currently have is working 6 days a week, 6 hrs a day, on average, and is costing us roughly $8,000 a week, money we literally do NOT have. If it weren't for a kind soul, we wouldn't have made it this far.
What we need, as soon as possible, is money to pay a sitter for the time Terri is off her feet and unable to cook, clean, do laundry and care for herself and her husband. We need either roughly $800/week for several MONTHS at a time or someone to be here for her to fill this role.
Terri's husband, Speedy, simply can not handle the strain of this as he can hardly stand or walk for any amount of time as it is and uses a mobility scooter or wheelchair to get around outside of the house as it is.
If we have to guess at a total amount for Terri's critically needed care, I'd say we are looking at $25,000 by the time it is done. The whole amount is not needed right away but we desperately need to be able to cover her weekly care if you are able to help in any way.
