Terra's Medical & Housing Fund

$1,273 of $6,000 goal

Created February 22, 2019
My friend Terra Walker was diagnosed with breast cancer and is in need of a little help covering medical and housing expenses while she goes through treatment. She is actually in need of housing quickly as she is going to be losing her current situation at the beginning of March.  She plans to continue working as much as possible while undergoing surgery to remove the mass, chemo, and radiation treatments. Unfortunately, she is also battling a pre-existing heart condition that makes Chemo extremely dangerous. We are wanting to raise enough money to cover housing for the next 5 to 6 months so she can focus on getting well, and not have added financial stress.  Any help is appreciated.

Good morning, everyone! I just wanted to touch base and let you know that we're stopping chemo. I know that sounds like a good thing, and it is, here's the whole story:

Two weeks ago, I weighed in at 143 pounds. I've been holding steady there, but that's almost 15 pounds more than when I began chemo. I knew there would be weight gain, it wasn't a surprise. In the past two weeks, I have gained 14 pounds of water weight. I weighed in at 157 pounds today. I cannot walk, can barely breathe, and none of this is cardiac.

We did the testing to verify, there are no blood clots, my x-rays and blood work are free from indicators of any cardiac involvement. BUT! This kind of water weight gain CAN cause major acute heart and kidney function failures. So, we're stopping chemo because there's no benefit to a final one, and as you can see plenty of detriment.

Tomorrow, I'm going in for a hydration visit, and to get two new medications to hopefully get rid of this water weight quickly and safely for every part of this process. I know that a hydration visit appears counterintuitive, but it's not. It's crazy important that my body stays hydrated and gets rid of the chemo drugs we just pumped into me.

And my fight is. not. over.

Once my body heals from this final chemo, I will have the mastectomy and expander insertion surgery. It's super dangerous because I will be under general anesthesia, cardiac protocols.

Then radiation begins. Daily visits to the hospital to have treatments shot at my chest. 5 days on, 2 days off. Not sure how long that will last, but probably close to 6 weeks, depending on how the margins from the mastectomy look.

Then we'll begin the excruciating process of reconstruction.

And my hormone suppression will continue to at least my next birthday.

Plus I still have that pesky blood clot, which could take 6 months to dissolve.

So, I'm not through this and there's some kinda scary stuff happening right now. My cardiac team remains a giant pain in the ass, and still refuses to communicate with me.

Hope that's enough info to carry you through until I know more.

Your continued support is so appreciated!

Much love.

Terra
