Teri's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Teri is undergoing a thorough transformation, which is requiring her to do many unexpected things--including exploring with different health care professionals what can be done to help her recover her health. The funds raised here will go toward her care and healing.

The love she and I have received already has been so immense and we are incredibly grateful. It has shown up in words, silent appreciation and presence, resources, practical suggestions, connections with others, and simple acts of letting us know you care and are here for us. The exploration and healing process has begun, so anything you can donate will be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your generosity!

Update 11/19:

We are continuously impacted and blown away by the generosity of our friends and family—it helps so much. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your thoughts, feelings, prayers, delicious nourishing food, yard work, errands, and your financial gifts.

Now that Teri has begun intensive treatment for the Lyme disease we thought it would be helpful to provide some numbers to help ground what we’re working with financially:

Costs of neurologist visits, MRI’s, EMG’s, infectious disease specialists, lab work so far in 2016 (to get ALS diagnosis): $30k billed, $4k not covered by insurance

Costs of Lyme docs and practitioners, testing: $1000, mostly not covered

Supplements, monthly, since May: $200-250, not covered

Products to accommodate daily living with Teri’s growing disability: $10-50/ month

Detox, acupuncture, physical therapy, psychotherapy, occupational therapy, and supplemental therapies: $300-600 monthly, mostly not covered

First month’s antibiotics (4) and other Rx: $1700, not covered (but goes toward deductible)

Estimated cost of IV antibiotics and associated costs, monthly: $1000-1500

Number of months the average neurological Lyme disease patient needs treatment: 8-36

Number of months typically covered by insurance: 1-2

Date Teri got laid off from agency job due to disability: Nov. 15, 2016 (yes, it is legal since she is not protected by discrimination laws as an independent contractor)

Average loss of monthly income since ALS diagnosis in May: $1000-4000 and growing

Please know that any and all generosity to help keep our spirits up and persevere is so appreciated.
