Telluride Gravity Project
The Telluride Gravity Project's 1MVertical is a pledge by founder Markus Van Meter to ski 1,000,000 vertical feet at the Telluride Ski Resort and surrounding area in the 2016 ski season in an effort to raise funds to get kids involved in snow sports. The proceeds from the 2016/17 pledge will go directly to the Ouray, Colorado School Ski Club .
By acting as the catalyst Markus hopes to initiate change in access for kids that may not have resources necessary to get started in skiing and snowboarding in Ouray County.
Raise a Penny Per Foot
The goal is to raise .01 penny per vertical foot for a total of $10,000.00 to be used towards, fees, gear, lessons, and special needs thru the Adaptive Program. Hopefully, this will be the shot in the arm needed to get kids, families, friends outside. The ski the 1MV Pledge is simply a fundraiser and tool to organize.
ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO OURAY SCHOOL
Hope everyone had a great holiday season and finding the new year treating you well.
We are getting into the meat of winter and the skiing has been good even tho' we have had a late start the numbers closing out the first week of January look like this:
Dec. Total Vert 190,400ft
Week 1 of January 63,943ft. (Weds. Jan 4th: 29,199ft)
Now that Mother Nature is cooperating and the big terrain is opening up daily numbers will be well over 20,000 a session.
Totals so far: 254,343vft, 529.4miles, 22,588Kcal
Who said skiing can't be a great way to stay in shape? Cross-country, skinning, downhill, nordic, whatever your flavor just get out!
We are currently at 10 percent of our goal of $10,000 with still plenty of time to get there, just going to need your help, simply share this post and the gofundme.com/telluridegravity address. That would be huge!
Here's a pic from skiing Friday under bluebird skies. You could almost feel the stoke. :-)
Until Next Time,

A terrain expansion this past weekend was more than welcome as running the same trail over and over to get your vert can become...well...monotonous! Put in a solid 3 days last week with a cold that left my head splitting like a cord of firewood, but thankfully that's behind me now.
Numbers for week 2 of ski season look like this:
51,699 vertical feet
112.78 miles of skiing
Season Totals: 112, 782 total vertical
The mileage is kind of surprising! We are officially at 10 percent of the 10,000 dollar goal for the season and my sincere thanks to everyone that has donated. Remember, if you mark your donation as anonymous I can't share your "coolness" on facebook or other social platforms in the form of "thanks" but you will get an email! Let's see what we get for donations this week.
Until Next Week,
Needless to say I've been gnawing at the bit to get out and start logging vert and had a nice start to the season by logging 45,738 ft in 3 days with 101.2 miles. It was a good start for breaking in new boots and dealing with the crowds on the trails around 4 chair.
This coming weekend, December 10th the resort plans to open more terrain with 5&6 chair and the "See Forever" loop. This is great news and makes getting more like 20-25K vert in a session.
I have to admit, I love skiing but Holy Cow! Logging 100 miles of skiing on 4 chair gets a bit monotonous! I'm headed back over tomorrow, December 6th for another session of vert. And of course, all weekend. See you next time, later this week for another update!
