Teeling is Healing, but her Mom & Dad need our help!
On Friday May 31, 2019, after a long awaited week of beach trips, family bonding, and celebrating the first few days of their engagement, Kristina (my daughter) and her new fiance Jimmy, received a heart wrenching call from his family. This call instantly brought their excited smiles to tears. They were informed that their 5 month old “fur baby” had been struck by a car when her collar snapped while out on a walk.
It happened so fast. Teeling (Tee), sprinted out from in front of the car, and laid herself down in the grass. The driver did NOT stop to check on Tee. She was rushed by family to an emergency veterinary hospital with several abrasions, and where X-Rays revealed a fractured Radius and Ulna in her front right leg. The good news, the injury could be fixed with orthopedic surgery. The bad news, the cost of the surgery is approximately $6,000!
With the report back from the vet, Kristina and Jimmy were well aware that they had “choices”.  With Tee only having a severe leg injury however, and knowing that she can heal from this injury, especially with her still being a young puppy, it simply did not make sense to make any choice other than to get Tee the surgery she needed. She deserves to experience the long, loving life that is ahead of her.
Tee had her surgery on June 3. She will be splinted, casted, etc. for six weeks, and will have home therapy to regain her strength after that. Payment was due in full at the time of admittance. Kristina and Jimmy opted to utilize a payment plan that was offered to them by the Vet through CareCredit. The problem is, that this option comes with a six month installment plan in order to avoid paying a high interest rate, and accumulating a debt that will take forever to go away.
They, like most millennials just starting out, work very hard and pay their bills, but struggle to balance significant student loans, a mortgage, daily expenses, etc. They are well aware that pets come with surprises, and expenses. They plan ahead, and they do their best to make wise choices. They never ask anyone for anything…
Family is helping in every way that we are able. Tee is my grandpuppy, and I am asking on Jimmy and Kristina’s behalf (because they won’t ask) for any amount that you may be able to contribute to help cover the cost of Tee’s surgery.
These two new puppy parents love Tee as if she were their child. They provide a wonderful playful, happy, family home for her, and are fully adapting to, and embracing the responsibilities and obligations required to help Tee recover. They just need our help to cover the cost of her surgery. Please contribute if you can, and if you cannot, then please keep them in your thoughts. They have a strict treatment plan to adhere to in order for Tee to heal properly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Teeling Grace Szablak, better known as “Tee” or “Small Batch” is a sweet, beautiful five month old little pup who has a long fulfilling life ahead of her. Similar to her namesake, a Whiskey Distillery in Ireland, her parents were quick to fall in love with her.
Kristina and Jimmy met 6 years ago at Westfield State University. Since then, they’ve both graduated, begun their careers, and work hard to build a happy life together. One year ago, they purchased their forever home, a fourth-generation family home based in Lowell, MA.
This year, they made the decision to grow their family by four little paws and rescued Tee from 3 Dogs Rescue organization located in Maine. For their 6 year anniversary, Jimmy’s gift to Kristina included a surprise visit to Funky Bow Brewery to attend a puppy adoption event this past Feb. Before going, they spent time on the rescue’s website, and fell in love with the face of this beautiful little girl.
The event lasts only 3 hours, and Jimmy & Kristina had no choice but to arrive late after finishing a work shift that day. Tee was one of 15 puppies at the event. She was originally rescued along with her siblings from Mississippi by the Rescue Org. At only a few months old, she travelled all the way up to Maine with hopes of finding her forever family. At the adoption event that day, Tee watched as one by one, each of the pups were selected by their new families.
Her sweetness and patience paid off. Jimmy and Kristina were thrilled to find that she was still there when they arrived at the event. Tee was one of the last few pups still waiting to be picked. They asked immediately to meet her, and that was the end of that. Tee had found her Forever Family….
Tee has settled into her new home beautifully. She was learning to play soccer in the backyard, has just started visiting the dog park for playdates, loves her Mom & Dad, and can’t live without her toys. She is super talented and even likes to show off by carrying up to 4 at a time in her mouth!
After a long time in the works, and with great hesitation to leave their baby at home, Jimmy and Kristina agreed to take a trip to FL to visit us for a reunion with Kristina’s siblings.
They were careful to make plans and accommodations in an effort to ensure that Tee was the first priority, and was well cared for in their absence. They even shortened their trip so as not to leave their new baby for too long.
As of last week, with Jimmy’s proposal, and Kristina saying “Yes”, the happy family is now going to officially be “a family”! The two of them could not be happier to share the exciting news with everyone!
Unfortunately, the celebration turned to tears and sadness in only a few short days. Tee’s injury brings concern, pain, sadness and tears. As life has it, her ordeal will surely also bring bonding for this family, and smiles from progress and rewards of her healing successes!
Jimmy and Kristina are awesome puppy parents. They adopted Tee, and were careful to choose a veterinarian with good reviews, but was also budget friendly. They have taken her for the standard puppy visits & vaccinations, and even had Tee scheduled to start obedience classes this week. They were in the process of researching puppy insurance options, and were weighing the benefits to the cost.
After all of this is said and done, they look forward to a lifetime of memories together with Tee by their sides. We thank you for the support and concern for Tee’s wellbeing and their family throughout this process.
Sending strength and positive thoughts their way…
Sincerely,
Karen Pichette (Tee’s Grandma). :)
