5 year Football Campaign

Most of you know me as a family member, teammate, former classmate, an acquaintance, or a friend. I also may currently coach one of your children. This August I begin my 3rd season as head football coach at TechBoston Academy in Dorchester Massachusetts. I am presenting my two-part campaign to you because I need your help. You are all individuals who have played a part in my life in some way or are closest to me. I am one who rarely asks for help so I find writing this very difficult. There comes a time when you believe you can impact a life and a community in a small way so you do what ever it takes and leave no stone unturned. I believe with your help we can make a small impact on a group of young men and the community they live in.
I am looking to raise money for our football program so we can become self -sufficient for the next FIVE YEARS while providing a positive community experience in our neighborhood. Our TBA staff has been very generous these past years but we know we need to tap other resources if we are to become a self-sustaining program. We are an urban school that is not immune to budget cuts and we lack funding for things that most teams in the state take for granted or consider being standard. Most schools have stadiums that can charge admission to games and a concession stand that also helps generate revenue. I even know of an affluent school next door to us with a booster club with a sole purpose of enriching their athletic community and providing financial support. We don't have that luxury because we don’t have a booster club and our home field is a city park. We can't charge an admission fee because of the multiple entrance points to this public field. This missed opportunity for our program adds up to a substantial amount of lost money each year.
Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help in many ways. We plan to use this money to become self sufficient through purchasing and selling of athletic gear, concession stand goods and products. With our concessions, we will be able to continue raising money during different sport seasons and provide small assistance to other teams. We plan to purchase banners for our field displaying our three city championships with in the last five years. We will look to purchase a washer and dryer, which will save us $800 each season. Each season we are also responsible for purchasing helmet decals, which cost $350. Your donation will provide us the opportunity to purchase Hudl for the next couple of years. Hudl costs $1000 each year, and last season it was defunded. Hudl is a tool used to trade film, prepare for games, create highlight film, and is a primary way we as coaches send colleges film of our players. I truly don’t understand why the city doesn’t cover this cost but I don’t have the luxury to wait when it has an immediate impact on our players’ future.
Lastly, we want our young men to volunteer and sponsor at least one meal a year at Rosie’s Place. Rosie’s Place is located in Boston and is a non-profit homeless shelter for women. I thought this would be free to do but I was told it cost $300 to volunteer and sponsor a meal.
My football players’ are great kids. They love playing football so much that they don't realize what resources they lack. They see the game in its purest form and I love them for that. We scrimmage affluent football teams and their facilities rarely go unnoticed by my players.
You are so vital to this campaign is because part two of my campaign is reach out to our Dorchester community. We will be asking them to match the amount raised with this campaign. They have the most to gain and have an obligation to invest in their community. I just want to do my part as their head coach to put them in the best position to win and succeed in life. That is my job and what I was hired to do. Please do not look at this as giving us money. I am tapping my best resource and I need you to believe that your donation is helping me change the culture of a school and its community at large.
