Team Scotland - WSDC 2019
Donation protected
Scotland has an amazing record at the World Schools Debating Championships - four times world champions and five times runners-up. Our record makes Scotland the third most successful country behind Australia and England in this annual competition, which regularly involves more than 50 countries. Participation involves 5 pupils, between 14-18, from Scotland's secondary schools debating in 8 preliminary rounds, four each of impromptu and pre-prepped, leading to 4 knockout rounds and a grand final over the 10 days of the competition.
To ensure the continued participation of Scottish, school pupils in this competition requires extensive fundraising by the pupils themselves and by the volunteers who administer Scottish Schools Debating, which has no formal income to fund this experience. The crowdsourcing initiative is one of a number of avenues SSD is using to help these bright, articulate school pupils to participate and to continue to improve Scotland's excellent record at WSDC.
