On Monday, April 23rd, 2018, our two-year old baby boy, Nicolai Constantine, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Nico’s diagnosis marked the beginning of a new chapter in our lives as parents of a two- and three-year old. Here is a timeline of Nico’s diagnosis:

• Thursday, April 20th: Nico began feeling lethargic, tired, no appetite, and his hemoglobin went down to 7.5 (Norm is 11+). Checked him into the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

• Monday, April 23rd: we received his diagnosis and Nico received a blood transfusion.

• Tuesday, April 24th: Nico received a bone marrow aspiration and spinal tap.

•Wednesday, April 25th: Nico had a port inserted and had his first round of Chemotherapy administered. I refer to chemotherapy as Christo-therapy, since I believe the treatment – like Christ – will save his life.

• Saturday, April 28th: Nico received his second round of Christo-therapy.

• Sunday, April 29th: Nico was finally released from the hospital.

Our journey has just begun!

We have received many texts, calls, visits, and gifts for Nicolai, and, for this, we are grateful.
Everyone’s outpouring of love and support has made this process just a little bit easier to manage. We may not understand why yet, but we believe God has given us this opportunity for a reason. Seeing His amazing work over the last few weeks has been the confirmation we needed that Nicolai is going to get through this. The name Nicolai means victorious, and conquerer of people and God has called him to be just that. This process has been quite the roller coaster ride, but, in all this chaos, we have found ourselves with so much peace and stronger than ever.

“‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid’ (John. 14:27).”

People have understandably been asking how we are doing: We are living one day at a time. We are giving thanks to God, because we know that He is in control. God has hired us overtime to do HIS work here on earth. I am going to continue loving each day, enjoying every moment with our children, and being grateful for all of you, who I know are praying with us diligently – believing that God is an awesome God, and his plans are so much better than ours. If you would like to support Nicolai through this adventure here are a few of the ways you can help:

1. Pray and believe our Nico is healed.

2. Share our story, as there are people going through this process that may need someone to stand with them in prayer.

3. Donate to #TeamNico. Donated funds will be used to cover medical expenses, medical exams, alternative supplements that will help Nicolai thru this 3.5 year journey.

I will continue to keep everyone updated about Nico’s progress through blogs and videos. Our hope is that our story can bring awareness, hope, and motivation to anyone going through a difficult time.

Remember: “Patience is not the ability to wait, but to have a good attitude while waiting.”

Love- The Constantine’s!
