It has been 3 months since I've updated everyone on Jalisa's progress. I am happy to report that the last 3 months has been an experience that we will always remember from the love and support we received from everyone. Jalisa has been amazing through the continuing challenges of complicated surgeries with a great outcome. She is delighted knowing her last surgery should be taking place later in April if all goes well.
As I sit here reflecting on these last 10 months and watching Jalisa recover from this unfortunate tragedy; I'm overwhelmed with joy & happiness knowing that my daughter has grown into this beautiful, strong, courageous young woman.
"We have to do the best we can. This is our sacred human responsibility. There is only one road to true human greatness: through the school of hard knocks."
Everyone can see the effects of God's mercy but who, except God himself, understands the essence of his mercy? 2013 has been a year to remember, Jalisa is embracing & looking forward to all that 2014 has to offer. It is love that brings happiness to people, love heals all pain. Your thoughts, prayers and generosity have been truly breathtaking. Happy Holidays!
We as a family have found that gratitude unlocks the fullness of life, it turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend, gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. We thank each and every one of you for all the love, gifts, and prayers!!! Love you!
After months of hospitalization, Jalisa has been discharged:) She's finally HOME adjusting to all the challenges life presents outside of the controlled environment of the hospital; however she's preparing for another hand surgery this week. We're praying that this will be the last of the 40+ surgeries. When I didn't think God was listening to me, I now see that he was. GOD is good, all the time.

The road to recovery continues. Jalisa's days are filled 3hrs/day, 6days/week of physical & occupational therapy. Her picc line has been removed, she continues to increase her ability and working towards feeding & grooming herself. Looking forward to being discharged and getting back to normalcy. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Jalisa is growing stronger everyday, her days are filled with rest and rehabilitation. Her dobhoff tube has been removed and she is enjoying some of her favorite foods from Pittsburgh [ Joe Mommas, Qdoba, Hello Bistro, etc] its such a relief to see her regain her appetite, her palate has evolved far beyond hospital food lol :) God bless you all for your love and support!!
The tears I cried today were tears of joy. After months of Jalisa being intubated and then trached due to the extensive weekly surgeries, I'm happy to say her trach has been removed without any damage to her vocal cords. Thank you all again for your support: prayers, emails, texts, Get well cards, conversations and efforts to help heal Jalisa.
This is Jalisa's admirable attitude from a Dr. who has come to know her throughout this tragedy. I am happy to say that today the last wound vac was removed, she started with 6 wound vacs! Jalisa is one amazing child of mine

The love, support and faith that we have witnessed over the pas week via emails and texts is unbelievable. Keep the prayers coming and thank you so much for all of the support. Jalisa is improving everyday. She's down to 2 surgeries per week with possible emergency surgeries in between. she has come a long way. God bless her
Jalisa is a intelligent, sweet, athletic, kind, a wonderful sister and
daughter who's blossomed into a beautiful 21 year old young lady. Jalisa has
always been blessed with excelling in everything life has presented to her:

Volleyball player of the year. She was on the honor roll throughout her
high school years, played the clarinet, and she graduated from East Rockaway
High school early after signing with the University of Pittsburgh Volleyball
team in 2010. On May 13th, 2013 she tragically encountered a rare
but most severe blood infection Group A Streptococcus resulting in necrotizing
Fasciitis and Streptococcal Septic Shock Syndrome. She has lost both legs, her
right thumb and will lose part of her left thumb with other fingertips in
question, she has minimal too no use of her hands or arms. Jalisa's life has changed forever. She remains in Trauma ICU, she's
strong, a fighter, and has "WOWED" the surgeons and all of us with
her progress. Jalisa has had over 20 surgeries thus far with more to come but
by the grace of God, she's alive. Any donations to help Jalisa through this
will be greatly appreciated. All donations will go towards Jalisa's Hospital, Medical care and Recovery expenses that she needs to regain as much of her life back as
possible. Thank you for taking the time to read her story.
