Team Ira KOAA No Shave November

It's No Shave November, the time of year where men can ditch the razor with the idea of drawing attention to men's health. My team at KOAA, Sam Schrier, Zach Thaxton, and Grant Meech, and I are all participating with the goal of raising money for a charity or organization of our own choosing.

As the reporter for Your Healthy Family, I have meet and interviewed many amazing people who have survived strokes, heart attacks, and cancers of all kinds.  So many of these health issues especially for men can be prevented through a proactive appraoch of seeing your doctor every year for a physical and knowing your health numbers.

I lost my father to heart disease and having that family history has me already on a path of paying close attention to my blood pressure, cholesteral, and weight.  It's not an easy battle but by being proactive I'm fighting it now before I get into serious trouble.  I hope through raising awareness other men will take the same proactive steps.

I have lost too many friends to cancer and so the charity I am supporting is the UCHealth Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs Circle of Hope Fund.

When people in our community learn they have cancer, they face a whole new set of challenges that can distract them from the healing journey. Cancer not only attacks a person physically, but socially, emotionally, and financially.

Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Circle of Hope Fund eases their burden and helps them to meet the enormous challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Due to the degenerative nature of cancer illness and its treatments, many patients are forced to take time off, increasing their financial burden.
