I have the privilege of captaining the Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Team heading to Miami to compete on November 10th in the DFAC World Finals! I am representing a stellar group of Athletes that have worked their butts off (literally lol) to build and refine their physiques so they can represent their country with pride. The standard of athlete at this competition is extremely high, with people coming from all over the world to compete, and celebrate Natural bodybuilding.
We are bringing 4 ameteur athletes to compete - 1 women's athletic (Jessie Steinberg), 2 women's figure (Tiffany Spearing and Michelle Rodgers) and 1 men's athletic (Sam Wilson), and I am competing in the Pro Figure category.
So much has gone into the prep for this event. We have all been training and dieting for more than 6 months to develop and refine our physiques. It is truly a character building experience and requires extreme focus and discipline to achieve the "looks" we all need for stage. Everyone on this team has sacrificed time, money, sweat, and sleep to get to where we are now and I am incredibly proud of them, and to be a part of this fantastic team.
It had never occured to me to reach out and ask for support from our family and friends - other than to ask for their moral support and encouragement. But then it was brought to my attention that our support systems may actually want to "help" us by contributing to our goal. This is not a cheap sport by any means to do. The food alone is a major expense, not to mention the coaching, gym memberships, suits, travel, hotels, tans, hair and makeup etc.. It really adds up!
I am sharing this because any support you may be willing to give would be appreciated so so much! My goal is to try and raise $5000 for the team in the next 4 weeks to try and offset the cost of competing for each athlete by $1000. We have each gladly invested more than this to chase our dreams of walking on a world class stage, AND we would be so grateful for anything our friends and families decide to contribute.
