As Laura made her 34th trip around the sun this year, she received the devastating diagnosis of stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. BREAST CANCER! So as Laura gets ready to celebrate her 35th birthday on December 15 she prepares for the long journey of battling this disease.
Who is Laura?
Laura is an amazing mother to her four year old son, Jake. She is a devoted teacher who has spent over a decade helping to guide young minds (fifth grade-they can be seriously moody and stinky but she loves them all-the-same). She is an athlete (basketball and running) and has made a commitment to healthy living. She is also a dedicated friend. She is the type of person that you can always count on for a good laugh, a dose of the truth, or just a shoulder to cry on.
Laura grew up in St. Paul and is very close with her parents and FIVE brothers! Family gatherings are filled with nieces, nephews, and a competition of some sort between the Buri siblings!
Laura's Treatment Plan
Laura received her diagnosis on November 27 and met with her surgeon a week later. As her cancer has already spread to her lymph nodes, she will begin aggressive chemo treatments for the next five months and then undergo a double mastectomy.
Funding Laura's Treatment and Recovery
Discussions with cancer survivors all have the same message: focusing on your health and recovery is the best way to beat cancer! Laura has dedicated 11 years to her role as a teacher and leader at one of the best schools in the state of Minnesota.
Unfortunately, her teacher salary and leave options will not enable her to take the time she will desperately need to focus on her well being. Her Paid Time Off (PTO) will be exhausted in a short time and her school does not allow faculty to donate their PTO directly to Laura. Laura's partner, Adam, will also be unable to take time off to be with her through her treatments without tremendous financial burden for their family.

Cancer is expensive. All donations will go directly to Laura and Adam during her treatment so that she can take the necessary time to heal and recover and so he can be there to support her without the burden of losing their incomes during her treatments. Laura is strong and determined to beat this disease and with your help, she will be able to focus on her health during this difficult time.
