Seven Mile 2019-2020 GoFundMe!

We are Seven Mile, a student organization from the University of Michigan, and, since 2013, we have been working with a few community centers and schools in Detroit to provide free music, arts, and coding education to the their communities during the school week and the summer months. The organization was originally started due to the Detroit Public School funding cuts to music, arts, and computer science programs in 2010.
We visit Mission City Community Center in Brightmoor, DCS in Brightmoor, and Conant Gardens Methodist Church in Conant Gardens!
During the school year, students participate in after-school music, arts, and coding enrichment. Our average student is 7 years old, but the ages range from 4-5 to several students over 14. Most students who attend our weekly lessons have never played an instrument, had art lessons, or coded before this program. The teachers are University of Michigan student volunteers, and we have two large showcases during where family and friends can come and see what their kids have learned.
We are dedicated to giving the Brightmoor and Conant Gardens communities access to music, art, and coding educations while developing independent, successful, and compassionate children by equipping them with the tools necessary to shine at home, at school, and in their community. Students learn to be comfortable and enjoy learning in a classroom, engage with thoughtful teachers who become positive role models, and get a chance to make friends their own age who are also interested in these creative pursuits.

Our students’ lives will be enriched with arts, music, and coding that they would otherwise not have access to due to the support of Seven Mile's community.
