Tatum Berrong, our granddaughter, daughter of Edward and Jessica Berrong will be having corrective heart surgery in September.
Tatum was born with Allagille Syndrome. Allagilles can affect several organs, mainly the liver and heart. Thankfully, after testing, Tatum's liver is essentially normal. Howerver, Tatum was born with a Congenital Heart Defect. Tatum has Bilateral Branch Pulmonary Stenosis. Her pulmonary arteries traveling to her lungs are too small. One side is more severe than the other. Tatum had a heart catheterization and balloon hoping to enlarge one of the arteries. This is was somewhat successful but her internal pressures were still almost double what they should be and her artery was still only half the size it should be. All of this makes her little heart work harder than it should. In time, this could lead to an enlarged heart and eventually congestive heart failure.
There is 1 doctor, yes only 1, who performs the type of surgery Tatum needs, Pulmonary Artery Reconstruction. This surgery will essentially alleviate issues from the defect. Dr. Hanley, a professor at Stanford University, will be perfoming her surgery at Lucille Packard's Childrens' Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Palo Alto is a very expensive area and hotel rooms with the hospital discount are around 150/night.
They will remain in California for about 3 weeks. We have had several people ask us how to help, so we decided to open this account to help cover medical expenses and the cost of living while in California.
Please keep her in your prayers! GOD has answered many prayers already and has given us a route to go and an answer that will help give our beautiful grandbaby an active, normal life, without additional medicines, hospital stays, heart caths, balloons, and stents.
OUR PROMISE IS THAT ANY MONEY RAISED OVER THE AMOUNT NEEDED TO PAY MEDICAL BILLS AND LIVING EXPENSES IN CALIFORNIA WILL BE DONATED TO A CHILDRENS HEART FOUNDATION TO FURTHER RESEARCH OF CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS.
