Tash's journey for her family - Breast Cancer

Tash (Centre) with daughters Heidi & Ava.

That moment in a sea of pink in Brisbane, is now more important than ever.........

I remember the morning that I picked up Tash (Natasha Wright-Martin) and two of her three girls Ava & Heidi to drive them to the Brisbane  International Women's Day Fun Run,  held in Brisbane on Sunday, 3 March, 2019. So much laughter and jokes of missing the 10km start and our normal car ride banter.

An annual event for our families, which started as a' Lets get fit' for Fiji moment. We had many of these lets get fit moments. But this walk became an event of Tash's ongoing support in walking for other families, including my own, who had lost their battle to Breast Cancer.

Tash was not feeling well the morning of the walk, but persisted due to knowing how much it meant to others.  She tells me later, she thought many times to ask me to  turn around and take her home . I now wish she had.

Caught up in the moment with all the music and upbeat people around you, all walking/running for the same cause. We're in stitches of laughter at the communal area trying to get these photos of our families with shirts too small.

Then there is a pause in our laughter. Tash reminds us of her breast scan tomorrow .  The words just rolled off my tongue "You will be fine".

Little did we all realise that our 5km walk was the start of Tash's own journey with Breast Cancer.

Waiting for the news the next day on her results was met with "Hi Lovely, how are you? Just going to dinner text u tomorrow x"

The word 'Lovely' is contagious as is Tash.  Always thinking of others before herself.

I as many others reading this post, will forever remember the news ... "I have been diagnosed with Advanced Breast Cancer,  Stage 3 and need to start treatment ASAP".

With your help, we are hoping to relieve some of the financial stress from Tash's husband Scott, mum Brenda and daughters Ava, Heidi and Maggi.

Tash is a teacher aide at Sheldon College, and has devoted her time to help grow young minds. A job she misses immensely, especially the children she worked with daily. Due to being dealt with this sudden news, Tash has had to take unpaid leave to devote her time to beat this cancer.

Her loving husband Scott advises that following Natasha being diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast cancer in her right breast, that it has also spread into the lymph nodes under her right arm. The cancer is triple negative which, is a very aggressive cancer that spreads rapidly.

The treatment consists of chemotherapy sessions for a period of 6 months, followed by surgery  and radiation.

The chemotherapy makes her feel tired, lethargic, nauseous, with a foggy brain and generally unwell 95% of the time.   The treatment is expected to take her up until the end of the year.

Natasha wishes to be cancer free by her daughter's 9th birthday in December this year.

You have got this Tash!

'There are friends, There is family, And then there are friends that become family. Our kids have grown up together and Tash has treated mine like her own which has been an absolute blessing. She is definitely the fun Mum! We have shared lots of good times and been there for one another thru life's ups and downs. Now more than ever we will be here for this beautiful family supporting them in every way possible. Together we have got this xx' - Sasha

'My amazing friend Tash.  You are a beautiful, strong woman, always happy and fun loving. You are without a doubt one of the kindest and most caring people I know. Hearing about what you are going through is most upsetting as you do not deserve this. We can not wait for you to be your happy fun self again and I look forward to many fun times ahead.' - Courtney

'Tash is a much loved member of the Bookworm Party Book Club. As with everything she does, Tash brings thoughtfulness, kindness and a wicked sense of humour to the group, and is well known for her recorded book critique that was worthy of an easy listening podcast. ' - Bronwyn on behalf of Bookworm Party Book Club

'Tash and I met through our daughters who formed a bond in junior school and even though they've gone off to separate schools the connection remains. I have in fact probably spent more time with Tash's daughter than I have with her. Ava is one of the most polite, considerate and caring children I have the pleasure of knowing. Not to mention a great friend to my daughter. There is no doubt these traits have been passed on through Tash. When I recently had to go overseas for a family funeral, Tash was the first to offer assistance to my family if any was needed. It is now time for Tash to receive the care and concern that she shares from those that care about her and let us help her through the cancer.  One side of Tash I only learned of recently was her wicked sense of humour. To keep that going I send Tash a 'Funny Joke or Meme' each and every day' - Jackie

'Tash is a woman who has time for everyone. Her husband Scott and her girls are her absolute world. She always makes sure that there's three nutritious meals on the table, finds time to take her girls to their extra curricular activities and looks on for other educational and fun events to take them to during school holidays. She is the most hands on, calm, nurturing mother I know, so with Tash being unwell and unable to do the usual 'everyday' things with her girls that she loves, it's incredibly hard for all of her family.

Tash will always find time to meet up with her many girlfriends who absolutely adore her. She's always up for a laugh, always has a listening ear and she and Scott show the most amazing generosity towards friends.

Tash has the greatest team mate in her loving husband Scott, who she has been happily married to for 15 years. Scott works incredibly long hours to provide for the four ladies in his life, but with Tash's diagnosis, the stress of not only bringing in the family income but now trying to run a household and make hospital appointments with his beautiful wife, not to mention the emotional strain of this diagnosis, the pressure is mounting.

Tash has time for everyone. From her husband, daughters and friends right down to complete strangers in need. She is truly the most wonderful woman who now is in need of some give back. No one deserves to have to fight this disease, especially a woman like Tash.' - Kathryn
