Tara's Stroke Recovery
The next step from here is an intense couple of weeks of stroke therapy at an inpatient facility followed by an extended stay in a professional nursing facility where she will continue therapy until she gets to come home. We have a very long road ahead of us but Tara has an AMAZING group of friends and family that care so very much for her.
We are trying to get her into RIC, which is the best stroke rehab facility in the country. RIC is located in Chicago which is where she will go for those crucial first two weeks of intense therapy if they accept her as a patient. We are raising money to help with medical expenses, nursing facility expenses, and travel expenses to and from Chicago for Tara and Steve (who hasn't left her side since the stroke happened, and plans to be by her side every step of the way). Getting her to Chicago will require medical transport for which the insurance company will not pay.
ANYthing you are able to contribute will be so helpful to the family. Let's help her get the very best care we can and get her back to that wonderful, martini-drinking, fun-loving women we all know and love!
She will be home tomorrow ❤️
Next stop: Chicago...next weekend! Time to get her back talking like smart-ass she was before
Tara is doing really well. She's getting around great with her cane, and is even practicing walking without it in the house! We are hoping that cane won't be around for too long.
Her arm still isn't functional and her speech is still not great. She is able to say some things but speech is our biggest hurdle right now.
She will be heading back to Chicago the entire month of October for an intensive aphasia program to try to get her speech back. She will be working hard for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week while in Chicago. She's very hopeful for this therapy but also a little worried about what happens if it doesn't work, but we are all very excited for her to go up there!
Before she leaves for Chicago, she will be getting her PFO (the hole in her heart) closed, so that no more clots make it to her brain to cause another stroke. This is a pretty easy procedure and she will most likely just have to stay overnight in the hospital. Once this is closed, and she is back from Chicago, the goal is to eventually remove her IVC filter, which is in place right now to catch any clots from her legs.
We cannot thank all of you enough for the. Amount of support and contributions to her GoFund me page. Because of all of your help, this next Chicago trip will be much less of a financial burden. ❤️
Thank you all!!
