Hello everyone!
My name is Elizabeth Duran and I am a junior at Stony Brook University majoring in Health Science with a track in Pre-nursing and a minor in Africana Studies. Studying abroad has been my biggest dream since entering college. I have always been the kind of person who enjoys learning new things and experiencing different cultures. As a Health Science student at SBU, it is very difficult to find an extensive study abroad program that can offer me the opportunity I want and still help me fulfill requirements for my major. This summer, I have been given the opportunity to travel to Tanzania!! There aren’t any amounts of words that describe how I am feeling, but it is a trip that I am very excited for.
Tanzania is going to be the experience of a lifetime. I will be visiting natural landscapes, like the Kilimanjaro (Tanzanian landmark) experiencing an academic and service learning safari, and much more! I will be learning the history, culture, and Kiswahili while traveling to four different locations within Tanzania. Not only will I be learning about the rich Tanzanian culture, but I will also have the opportunity to take pre-nursing classes. The program has a focus on health care facilities, which will allow me to shadow physicians and nursing students working in various hospitals. We will also be doing various hours of community service by visiting different orphanages and donating items of necessity. This program will open so many doors for me, as well as give me volunteer hours that can be accredited towards my application for nursing school. Not only that, but it’s an experience that I can apply to help understand more of my minor in Africana Studies.
As you can see, the opportunity to travel to Tanzania is one that I simply cannot pass. My trip is set to depart on May 26th, 2015. But I need your help! This program is great, but it is expensive and I cannot afford it on my own. It would mean the world to me if anyone can donate ANYTHING towards helping me fund my trip. Every penny counts! Please help me invest in my future and allow me to gain an experience outside of the classroom. I thank you in advance for any donation you can make towards my goal!

Tanzania vas hacer la experiencia de toda una vida. Voy a visitar paisajes naturales, como el Kilimanjaro, experimentar un safari en el aprendizaje académico y de servicio, y mucho más! Estaré aprendiendo la historia, la cultura y el swahili mientras viajo a cuatro lugares diferentes dentro de Tanzania. No sólo voy a estar aprendiendo acerca de la rica cultura de Tanzania, pero también voy a tener la oportunidad de tomar clases de pre-enfermería. El programa tiene un enfoque en los centros de salud, que me permitirán sombra médicos y estudiantes de enfermería que trabajan en diversos hospitales. También vamos a estar haciendo varias horas de servicio a la comunidad , visitando diferentes orfanatos y vamos a donar artículos de primera necesidad.
