Tanya has a brain condition called Chiari Malformation, which she did not know she had until a ride at Disney, which gave her whiplash. She started experiencing head pain, fainting, vomiting and many other neurological symptoms.
In the last 2 1/2 years, she has had seven brain surgeries in NYC. Two for Chiari, then developed hydrocephalus, which is fluid on the brain. She had a shunt placed that collapsed her brain ventricles. The following month had another shunt put in but developed a bad staph infection that resulted in emergency surgery and months of IV antibiotics and hospitalizations in NYC. Months later, she went through countless procedures, tests and more surgeries. Things were not getting any better for her and Tanya was beginning to lose hope of having a normal life as a wife and a mother of an eleven year old son.
Anyone who has the privilege of meeting Tanya knows she is a person who is kind and always thinking of others even though she is enduring so much pain. The main thing that keeps her pushing through her ordeal is her son, Jacob, whom she adores. Due to her condition and constant pain, she is unable to attend many of his school and sport functions. It breaks her heart missing such precious moments in his life. Many events she can only see through pictures and videos.
Recently, Tanya found a specialist in Colorado who had retired but now is back only taking on special cases. She went to see him in January and he found that she has blocked fluid in one part of her brain and more of her skull needs to be removed to make room for her brain that is herniated. She will be having her eighth brain surgery on March 4 in Colorado and will have to stay out there for a few weeks.
Tanya had to give up working two years ago due to her illness. The medical expenses for her multiple surgeries and travel expenses to see her doctors have been such a burden to her and her family. Please join me in helping Tanya and her family through this long painful journey by contributing whatever you can to offset some of their financial burden. No amount is too small!
