Tammy's Adaptive Van and Wheelchair

Donation protected
On 1/19/2018, Tammy, a young woman with CP,  was in a bad accident with her wheelchair van.  It was a single vehicle accident, skidding off a curve in the road, getting caught in the snow, and  and hitting a telephone pole.

Tammy has used a power wheelchair her entire life.  The chair weighs over 600 lbs, and she cannot travel in an ordinary car.

I was her aide, driving her van, an on an aide's hourly pay, I can do little to help her with these costs.

There was, as you can see, significant damage to her car, and also to her wheelchair.

Prudently, Tammy had put a rider in her automobile insurance to cover the replacement cost of the ramp for her wheelchair, and the wheelchair itself, should she be in an accident.  She paid considerably extra in order to have this protection.

As a result, the insurance company is trying to fix the van, despite it having damage that would normally lead to it being totalled.  This will involve it going to multiple garages, each of which will charge a separate deductable.

In addition, the mechanics are saying that they have never done repairs of this type before (as this type of damage is typically totalled), such as literally hand -creating a new frame for the car around the ramp modification. This has her concerned about the safety of the repairs, and whether they will be durable in the long term, and she faces extra maintanence costs in the future.

She is also going to need a new leg rest for her wheelchair.  This is a powered elevating leg rest, costing over $2000.

Tammy works to support herself and stay off of public assistance,  and is in desperate need of transportation in order to keep her full-time job.

We are looking to raise funds for Tammy to:`

1.  Pay the mutiple deductables that this will require. This will be at least $3000.

2.  Repair her power wheelchair. This will cost around $2000.

3  Cover incidental expenses until a replacement van can be found, such as the occasional medical cab ride in a wheelchair van to get to medical appointments, work meetings that cannot be done remotely from home, etc.

4.  Cover medical bills not being covered by her insurance, which will be at least $4000.
