Tamba Abdulai Foundation, founded in 2014, is a program that is operating in the rural area of Bayafeh Section, Gbense Chiefdom, Kono District, Sierra Leone.
The Program helps children in 7 villages of Gbense Chiefdom (Gbukuma, Dunamor, Mansundu, Dakafeh, Bendu III , Dandandor and Fueindu) to access education by providing them with school material. In these communities, there is 95% illiteracy, and children and parents face several challenges to enrolling in school. Our program helps overcome these challenges by providing students with materials such as uniforms, notebooks, and tuition fees. Tamba S Abdulai, the founder, serves as the program head.
In 2014/2015 school year, Tamba Abdulai Foundation supported 20 students, 12 boys and 8 girls, who were able to perform very well in school as a result of the Program’s assistance. In addition to providing school uniforms, notebooks, and a year tuition fees, the program also conducted a one day sensitization workshop for the parents, which focused on the importance of education and sending their kids to school.
In 2015/2016, Tamba Abdulai Foundation continued supporting children in these communities. The program was able to increased the number of students from 20 to 50 students (22 boys and 28 girls), including reenrolling children who had dropped out of school many years ago. The program again helped the kids with one-year tuition fees, uniforms and notebooks. At the end of the academic year, 98% of students enrolled in the program were able to promote to the next class.
In 2016/2017, the program continued to expand education opportunities among the kids who wanted to learn but cannot afford to attend school. The program increased the number of students from 50 to 67 and has enabled many students to reach levels in school they never thought they could achieve. would like to get 100 students maximum to be enrolled in the program
As we approach 2017/2018 academic year, we would like to continue supporting the current number of students enrolled in the program and add 33 students more to get 100 students involved
The program would like to raise $3000 from July-September 2017 to be able to maintain the current number of students in the program and adding 33 more students to have a total of 100 students by providing them with one-year tuition fees,uniform and notebooks.
