Maryland Fracking Ban Celebration

It's been a long 7 1/2 year struggle in western Maryland to save some of the finest freshwater resources in the world and to protect the quiet natural beauty of this important recreational area.

On Sunday June 11th, the Take Me To The River Maryland Fracking Ban Celebration will feature music and festivities  from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will occupy the entire Friendsville Community Park.


Friendsville was the second town in Maryland to ban fracking (after Mountain Lake Park) and helped set the stage for a succession of bans and ban resolutions including Frostburg, Frederick County, Deep Creek Lake Watershed, Rockville, Anne Arundel County, Prince Georges County, College Park and Baltimore City, etc. Hard work by a diverse group of businesses, individuals and environmental groups lead the charge for the first legislative ban in the Nation. Everyone is invited! Free Admisssion.

The event will also feature the Environment Trail with booths by regional environmental and sustainability groups. This is an out-reach to attendees of the event, but also a networking event for the various groups to exchange ideas and have fun together! There is no fee for groups to set up a table or tent.

The committee has secured the park at $530.00 and is looking for additional help to fund the bands, pig roasting and other expenses like event insurance.  Bands include Little Bird, The Fishermen Band, Mateo Monk, Still Brewin' and Expanda Band and Rob Smith & Friends Band

Activites to include: Art fun for kids and familes, fun little costume parade, games, dip in the river, volleyball, sack races, campfire, wildflower walks, and more. Spend the day with the family enjoying nature and its preservation.
