Classroom tablets for my students

Donation protected
My name is Jason Lamza, I'm the 7th grade science teacher at Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy (GGYMLA). We are an East Austin all-boys public school, part of the Austin Independent School District (AISD). We are a Title 1 school, which means the majority of our students fall under the economically disadvantaged category. I am looking to raise funds to purchase 30 Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets, 8" display, as well as Bob-j Bounces Cases to protect the tablets; for exclusive use in my classroom.

The GGYMLA story and our amazing young men.
“Boys Yesterday, Young Men Today, Leaders Tomorrow!” This is our school motto and one we all believe in deeply. At GGYMLA teachers go beyond just teaching our subject matter, we truly are preparing these young men to be upstanding citizens and tomorrow’s leaders. We adhere to a strict dress code that requires our young men to wear khakis, button down shirts (tucked in) and a tie. No clip-on ties at GGYMLA. One of our first events each year is the tie tying ceremony. At GGYMLA we impart in our young men a sense of brotherhood, professionalism, empathy for others, and to be service-oriented problem solvers, and lifelong learners. Teaching our young men science and how to become a good man is immensely important, but so is preparing them for a 21st century workplace; which is why I need your help.

Why our students need your help.
I have noticed over the last two years my students' engagement and learning increases dramatically when they are using computers for research and project presentations.  Due to the lack of computers available to our students most of my lessons are unfortunately not computer based.  Because of the limited number of computers at our campus, teachers who wish to do more computer based teaching must share the computer lab. This amounts to one lesson, on average, every two weeks in the computer lab. For students soon to enter a 21st century workplace requiring strong computer skills, our young men are falling behind.

With your help my goal for the upcoming school year is to have 30 tablets dedicated to my 7th grade science classroom, which will provide each student with a 100% computer based learning experience. With computer based lessons students in my classes will conduct online research and build projects based on what they learn. The tablets are needed because students entering my class don’t yet know how to conduct proper research, such as vetting websites and related articles. After multiple projects they will master this needed skill. The tablets come with Microsoft Office Suite so most projects my students turn in will be Word documents, graphing with Excel, and presentations using Power Point; all required skills in today’s competitive work environment.

About the tablets I’m looking to purchase.
I have a few requirements the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 meets perfectly. These tablets are fast, Wi-Fi ready, very durable, have 10 plus hours of battery life, and come with Microsoft Office Suite. They have a feature, SideSync, which will allow students to drag and drop between devices for group projects. Another nice feature is the ability to open two apps side-by-side which will allow students to read one page while typing notes on another. All this is nice but price is also a big consideration and these tablets are priced well.

To protect these tablets from constant daily use I will cover them with Bob-j Bounces Cases, which are designed with students in mind. They give excellent protection from drops, are washable, and are ergonomically designed for students.

Funds needed.
The Galaxy Tablets: $299.99 x 30 = $8,999.70
The Bob-j Cases: $23.99 x 30 = $719.70
Taxes: $835.87
Total: $10,555.27
Shipping is free for both products.

I am working with Samsung and Bob-j Gear in an attempt to reduce the price based on our education needs and order size. Any funds I receive over the needed amount will go to other areas of needs for our students. This includes sponsoring students on field trips requiring a fee, clothing for our students, and food for families of our students.

Thank you so much for your financial help, it really means a lot to me. You are  making a real difference in a young man's life. Remember we are a village. Every young man you help today will become an adult you don't have to help tomorrow.
I will be updating you with photos from the classroom when school starts.

Thank You,
Jason Lamza
