Help My Crazy Crew Avoid Eviction!

Donation protected
I am so embarrassed, but I am at the end of my rope and I don't know where else to turn. I'm a single mom of twelve-year-old twins and I desperately need your help to keep from becoming homeless.

We are behind on our rent and we received an eviction notice. If we don't come up with $1,241.16 by January 17th, court proceedings for eviction will take place. We have tried to make partial payments on our rent but our landlord will only accept a certified check for the full amount, which we don't have.

We are behind on our rent for several reasons. 2018 was a nasty year for us financially and October dealt us several blows that brought us to our knees. I had five-day hospital admission for GI issues and another five days off from work for other health issues. All of this time off was unpaid since I exhausted my sick time and PTO earlier in the year (I had another hospital admission and surgery). Then, Shawn lost his job and he had no income for several weeks.  We were able to pay November's rent but we just couldn't swing December.

Our other issue is our vehicle registration/insurance. Everything was due in October. Things lapsed. We need to get the registration and insurance current on both of our vehicles. Shawn and I have both received tickets for this issue, and we simply can't afford more. However, we have to go to work, so what else are we supposed to do?

I have fought so hard to get where I am today. When Scott and I divorced in 2012, he was awarded full custody of the kids due to my mental health issues, addiction problems, and financial instability. I moved to Utah with four cents in my wallet. It took me almost five years to work my way back to Michigan and kick my addiction issues. It wasn't easy, but in May 2017, I was able to move to Okemos. It took me a while to secure a job with a schedule that allowed for full joint custody, but I did, and now I share joint custody of the boys with Scott. Obviously, if I'm evicted and homeless, I won't be able to exercise my custody rights, and all my hard work will have been for nothing. The thought of not being able to be in my boys' lives is terrifying.

I have a good job that I've held for over a year, and I've just gotten a raise. Shawn is working double shifts at his new job. We just need a little help to get over this hurdle. We're current on all of our other bills. Once we get current on our rent and resolve the car issues, we'll be able to meet our financial obligations on our own.

I have tried contacting several aid agencies in the area but my income is too high for any low income assistance. I cannot take out a personal loan because unfortunately my credit sucks. I don't have any long-lost rich relatives that can help. I don't know where else to turn, so it is with a heavy heart that I ask you to please consider helping us keep a roof over our heads. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you can't help financially, please share. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I promise that I will pay it forward.
